Due to Bitcoin's Decline, Satoshi Nakamoto's Fortune Shrinks by $67 Billion
Updated: August 10, 2026. Bitcoin has fallen 48% from its all-time high, significantly impacting the wealth attributed to its creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. According to analytics platform Arkham, wallets linked to Nakamoto hold approximately 1.096 million BTC. While the total value of these holdings reached $138 billion at the peak price of $126,198 per coin, it has now dropped to around $71.19 billion with Bitcoin trading near $65,000—resulting in an unrealized loss of roughly $67 billion.
Bitcoin's current price levels are comparable to those of September 2024. Despite the bear market, the drawdown is less severe than in previous cycles when declines approached 80%. However, market sentiment remains pessimistic. Co-founder of Glassnode, Rafael Schultze-Kraft, notes extremely low spot volumes and daily turnover rates, indicating weak investor interest and reduced activity in Bitcoin spot ETFs.
Overall, bearish sentiment prevails, though a long-term recovery is possible if demand increases. Meanwhile, Strategy has continued selling its Bitcoin reserves, offloading 1,690 BTC from August 3–9 to fund stock buybacks. Its dollar reserves have now grown to $4.65 billion, while its Bitcoin holdings have decreased to 840,447 BTC.
