Simon Gerovich, CEO of Japanese investment company Metaplanet, stated that there have been no fundamental changes in the structure or logic of the long-standing bitcoin purchase strategy of the company Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).
In a social media post, Gerovich emphasized that although the market's perception of Strategy's approach has changed several times over the years, the company has consistently adhered to the same strategy.
Gerovich recalled that Strategy's journey into bitcoin began in August 2020, noting that at that time, many viewed the addition of $250 million worth of bitcoin to the balance sheet of a software development company with a market capitalization of about $1 billion as a one-time and unusual move. However, the subsequent nearly tenfold increase in the company's stock price led the decision to be perceived by markets as a "prophetic" investment strategy.
Yet, the sharp decline in the bitcoin market caused Strategy's stock to lose approximately 90% of its value, leading the strategy to be labeled a failed experiment. According to Gerovich, although the market's perception has changed significantly over time, the company's core approach has remained unchanged.
The Metaplanet CEO noted that, despite all the ups and downs, Strategy continued to purchase bitcoin without interruption and currently holds 843,775 BTC. At current market prices, the total value of these assets is estimated to be over $50 billion. With this volume of bitcoin, Strategy remains the world's largest institutional bitcoin investor.
Gerovich's statements have garnered attention, as Metaplanet has also been regularly adding bitcoin to its balance sheet recently. Through these acquisitions in recent months, the company is accelerating its institutional bitcoin strategy, and many investors regard Metaplanet as one of the Japanese companies implementing the "Strategy model."
