Abstract

Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs attracted $706 million in fresh capital amid a surge in cryptocurrency prices and institutional demand. Bitcoin's break above $70,000 and Ethereum surpassing $2,000 triggered strong inflows, marking one of the best joint sessions for crypto ETFs in recent months. BlackRock's IBIT led Bitcoin ETF inflows with $284.74 million, accounting for over half the daily total. Other major inflows included ARKB ($77.71M), FBTC ($62.41M), and BITB ($35.60M). Bitcoin ETFs saw $6.89 billion in trading volume, with net assets climbing to $84.31 billion. Over three days, they attracted $1 billion. For Ethereum ETFs, BlackRock's ETHA led with $122.12 million, followed by Fidelity's FETH ($36.54M). No Ethereum ETF reported outflows, with total net assets rising to $12.06 billion. XRP and Solana ETFs also saw positive flows of $2.35 million and $2.10 million respectively. In contrast, Hyperliquid (HYPE) ETFs experienced a $1.97 million outflow, despite a brief 16% price spike following regulatory comments from former President Trump. The session highlighted how aligned price momentum and institutional demand can rapidly reignite bullish dynamics, with Bitcoin and Ethereum capturing the majority of capital while altcoins like XRP and Solana benefited from increased risk appetite.

The price breakthrough quickly led to a surge in ETF activity.

Bitcoin's breakthrough above the $70,000 mark has attracted significant institutional investment back: eight U.S. spot funds attracted fresh capital, and none reported outflows. Ethereum joined the rally when the price of $ETH surpassed $2,000, helping to secure one of the strongest combined sessions for the two largest cryptocurrency ETF markets in recent months.

Blackrock Leads Bitcoin Inflows with $517 Million

Blackrock's IBIT ETF remained the most popular instrument, attracting $284.74 million, accounting for more than half of the daily Bitcoin inflow volume. The ARK 21Shares' ARKB fund attracted $77.71 million, and Fidelity's FBTC attracted $62.41 million. They were followed by Bitwise's BITB with $35.60 million.

Grayscale's GBTC and Bitcoin Mini Trust attracted $21.18 million and $19.66 million respectively. Morgan Stanley's MSBT attracted $9.98 million, and Franklin Templeton's EZBC completed the list of inflows with $5.92 million.

Amid the price movement, trading activity surged sharply. Bitcoin ETF turnover reached $6.89 billion, and total net assets rose to $84.31 billion, about $5 billion above Tuesday's level. This week, Bitcoin ETFs attracted exactly $1 billion over three trading sessions.

After three days of continuous inflows, Bitcoin ETFs have attracted $1 billion.

Ethereum ETFs showed an equally significant increase. Blackrock's ETHA fund attracted $122.12 million, and Fidelity's FETH fund attracted $36.54 million. Grayscale's Ether Mini Trust attracted $16.04 million, and Blackrock's ETHB fund attracted $9.71 million.

Smaller inflows went to Morgan Stanley's MSSE, Grayscale's ETHE, and Franklin Templeton's EZET. None of the Ethereum funds recorded outflows. Total trading volume reached $2.14 billion, and net assets rose to $12.06 billion.

$XRP and Solana Rise Amid $HYPE Sell-Off

ETFs on $XRP attracted $2.35 million, which was almost evenly distributed between Bitwise's $XRP fund and Franklin Templeton's XRPZ fund. Net assets once again exceeded a billion, reaching $1.01 billion.

ETFs on Solana ended the day with inflows of $2.10 million. Bitwise's BSOL fund attracted $5.63 million, offsetting outflows of $3.12 million from Grayscale's GSOL and about $415,000 from Invesco's QSOL.

$HYPE ETFs bucked the overall trend, recording outflows of $1.97 million.

This wave of selling occurred amid a favorable regulatory signal for Hyperliquid. Speaking at a White House event with tech sector leaders, President Donald Trump stated that CFTC Chairman Mike Selig was working to bring Hyperliquid to the U.S. "in full compliance with the law." Following these remarks, the price of $HYPE briefly jumped from around $62 to $72.30, representing a gain of about 16%.

Wednesday's session demonstrated how quickly bullish momentum can return when price and institutional demand align. The majority of capital was attracted by Bitcoin and Ethereum, while $XRP and Solana also benefited from the overall increase in risk appetite.

Haiwei Huaxin's Official Seal Seized by Over a Hundred People, High-Stakes Corporate Battle's 'Nuclear Deterrence' in Action Again

On August 18th, Haowei Huaxin, a semiconductor firm specializing in gallium arsenide and gallium nitride wafers, reported that over a hundred individuals forcibly entered its offices and seized the company's official seals from a safe, including the corporate, contract, and party committee seals. The incident is the latest escalation in a protracted control dispute. Haowei Huaxin, established in 2010, was originally a joint venture. Control became contested after 2021 when Zhenwei Financial Holding injected capital, becoming the largest shareholder (34.01%), while former parent Haite High-Tech's stake was diluted to 33.79%. An agreed-upon governance structure collapsed, leading to mutual accusations. Haite claimed it was locked out of the subsidiary's premises, while also alleging improper management like livestock being kept on the chip fabrication site. After state-owned Qingdao Haiyue Holdings took over Zhenwei's stake in 2023, Haite accused it of illegally seizing control. Despite Haite winning several legal battles in 2024-2026, which affirmed its rights to nominate directors and the chairman, it failed to regain physical control or recover the seals. The stakes are high: market valuations for Haite's stake in Haowei Huaxin are estimated between 3.7 to 5 billion USD, yet it is only valued at about 83 million USD on Haite's books. Losing control effectively jeopardizes a significant portion of Haite's value. In response to the seal seizure, Haite framed it as a "shareholder rights protection" action agreed upon by five shareholders. This mirrors a pattern in Chinese corporate disputes where seizing physical seals becomes a tactic to paralyze the opponent's daily operations, seen in past conflicts at companies like Dangdang and Bitmain. However, such actions don't resolve underlying ownership issues; the opposing party can report the seals stolen, declare them void, and apply for new ones, albeit with significant delay. The incident underscores how fragile corporate governance can devolve into physical confrontations over symbols of authority, with control ultimately determined by law and shareholding, not possession of a seal.

Bernstein Interprets MRNA's 177% Surge: What's Fundamentals and What's Hype?

Bernstein's analysis of Moderna's 177% stock surge following positive Phase 3 results for its individualized neoantigen therapy (INT) in melanoma distinguishes fundamental drivers from market speculation. The clinical breakthrough is real: the INTerpath-001 trial met its primary and key secondary endpoints, providing crucial validation for mRNA technology in oncology beyond infectious diseases. However, Bernstein argues the magnitude of the stock move cannot be justified by this single trial's fundamentals alone. The surge was amplified by three key factors: 1) A re-rating of Moderna's mRNA platform potential for expansion into other cancers, 2) A massive short squeeze, given ~15% of shares were sold short pre-announcement, and 3) The compelling "cancer vaccine" narrative that fueled broader investor enthusiasm. While the melanoma success is significant, Bernstein cautions that replication in lung, kidney, and bladder cancers—which have different immunogenicity—is not guaranteed. Furthermore, INT's commercial model faces challenges: it's a personalized treatment, not a mass-market vaccine, implying higher production costs and potential margin pressures despite a projected multi-billion dollar peak sales opportunity. The report also notes sector rotation, with some funds moving from crowded AI/semiconductor trades into defensive healthcare stocks, adding further momentum. In conclusion, Bernstein maintains a "Market-Perform" rating and a $45 price target, far below the post-surge price. It views the current valuation as pricing in an optimistic multi-cancer platform success and efficient commercialization that are yet to be proven. The clinical inflection point is clear, but the earnings inflection point awaits validation across future trials and commercial execution.
