Binance Co-CEO Yi He Hacked: Attackers Use Account To Shill MUBARAKAH and Other Tokens

Binance Co-CEO Yi He's dormant WeChat account was hacked on December 9, as confirmed by Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ). The attackers gained access through an old, reactivated phone number or a SIM-swap attack, bypassing SMS-based two-factor authentication. They used her account to promote the fraudulent memecoin MUBARAKAH, causing its price to surge over 900% and allowing them to profit approximately $55,000. The hackers spent 19,479 USDT to acquire 21.16 million tokens and sold 11.95 million during the peak. Both CZ and Yi He issued warnings, emphasizing that Web2 social platforms remain vulnerable. This incident follows a similar breach of Tron founder Justin Sun's WeChat account in November. No internal Binance systems were compromised. CZ urged the community to avoid buying tokens based on social media posts and to strengthen non-crypto account security with hardware keys and stronger 2FA.

Russia Accounted for Up to 31% of Traffic on Major Cryptocurrency Exchanges in November

According to data from Similarweb cited by Wu Blockchain, Russia accounted for up to 31% of traffic on the cryptocurrency exchange Bybit in November, making it the largest source of visits to the platform. Although Bybit's overall traffic decreased by 10% month-over-month, the share of Russian users increased by 3 percentage points. Among 15 major crypto exchanges, total traffic fell by 11% in November, with no platforms showing growth. Spot trading volume on major exchanges dropped 27.8% to $1.7 trillion, while derivatives trading volume declined 15.8% to $7 trillion. Bybit ranked fourth in both spot and futures trading volumes. The Central Bank of Russia also reported an 18% decline in transaction volumes on foreign crypto exchanges in Q2 and Q3 of 2023, along with a 20% decrease in Russian users’ crypto holdings and a 28% drop in traffic from Russia to crypto platforms.

Bitwise has launched the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index ETF (BITW) on the NYSE, providing investors with a single investment vehicle for diversified crypto exposure. According to analytics platform Arkham, these transactions occurred on December 10th. The funds, which had remained untouched since 2013 when Bitcoin was valued at roughly $100, have seen their value increase nearly 1,000-fold, with Bitcoin's current price around $92,300. This $3.1 million transfer is only a portion of the total funds in the cluster, which still holds an additional $38.5 million. The movement of these coins follows the January 2025 pardon of Silk Road's creator, Ross Ulbricht, by former U.S. President Donald Trump, leading to his release from a life sentence. Prior to his pardon, Coinbase product director Conor Grogan had identified approximately 430 BTC across dozens of wallets that were suspected to belong to Ulbricht. These specific coins were never seized by authorities during the 2013 shutdown of the platform. The identity of the individual or entity behind the recent transactions remains unknown, and it is unclear if Ulbricht has any connection to them.
