Bitcoin keeps traders guessing near $64K as stocks gain on cool US PPI data

cointelegraphPublished on 2026-08-13Last updated on 2026-08-13

Abstract

Bitcoin (BTC) held near $63,900 after cooler-than-expected US Producer Price Index (PPI) data for July provided a boost to US equities. The PPI showed monthly inflation unchanged at 0.2%, with the yearly increase at 4.7%, below the 4.9% forecast. This data, following on from in-line Consumer Price Index figures, increased market bets that the Federal Reserve will pause interest rate hikes in September. However, Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack remained hawkish, questioning if recent data is sufficient to bring inflation down to the 2% target. Meanwhile, analysts highlighted key Bitcoin price levels to watch, with $61,000 identified as a potential flashpoint due to a high concentration of long position liquidations that could accelerate a downside move if triggered.

Bitcoin (BTC) edged away from weekly lows on Thursday after the US Producer Price Index (PPI) narrowly cooled in July.

Key points:

  • Bitcoin avoids further downside as US PPI data provides a boost to US equities.
  • Cleveland Fed president stays hawkish on the outlook for interest-rate policy.
  • Bitcoin long liquidations make $61,000 a key level to watch.

The July US Producer Price Index (PPI) print was unchanged month-on-month at 0.2%, while year-on-year increased 4.7% versus an anticipated 4.9%, per data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

“In July, a 0.2-percent increase in the index for final demand services and a 2.2-percent advance in prices for final demand construction offset a 0.7-percent decrease in the index for final demand goods,” the BLS release said.

“Falling gasoline and energy prices provided the biggest relief,” Econoday analysts highlighted.

US stocks gained at the Wall Street open as PPI further cooled market bets on interest-rate hikes from Federal Reserve policymakers. The S&P 500 index and tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index were up 0.87% and 0.94%, respectively, at the time of writing.

CME Group’s FedWatch Tool showed 65.6% odds of those policymaker holding rates at the current 3.50-3.75% level at the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) September meeting. Wednesday’s July Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers matched expectations, already resulting in a boost to the rate-pause outlook.

After their biggest split over the interest-rate path since 1970 in July, Fed officials continued to strike a cautious tone over policy. Speaking at an event with the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce in Kettering, Ohio, Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank president Beth Hammack questioned whether even recent cooler data prints would be enough to bring inflation down to the Fed’s 2% target.

“Maybe we’d get there, but if it takes another three to four years to get there, is that OK? Is that enough?” she said, quoted by Bloomberg.

Hammock was one of three officials to vote in favor of a 0.25% rate hike in July.

Bitcoin faces long position liquidations at $61,000

With BTC price action still acting within a tight range, market participants’ attention focused on the extremes.

Rafael Schultze-Kraft, cofounder of onchain analytics platform Glassnode, suggested that $61,000 could become a flashpoint thanks to the large potential long position liquidations that would occur if price were to reach it.

“Long liquidation risk has built up around $61K in the past weeks. If we get there, I’d expect forced selling to add momentum to the downside,” he wrote in a Tuesday X post.

Previously, Cointelegraph reported on $63,000 now forming another key BTC price level as repeated retests increased the odds of support failure.

BofA Research Report Analysis: Marvell Takes TPU Peripherals, Broadcom Holds Core Value of $250 Billion

Bank of America's report analyzes the impact of Google's new custom chip agreement with Marvell on the TPU supply chain. While Marvell secured a deal for "XPU-attach" chips (like AI inference accelerators and memory controllers), corresponding to a potential $120B in cumulative purchases, BofA argues the core high-value components remain with Broadcom. Broadcom retains design and supply for the core ASIC, advanced packaging, HBM integration, high-speed SerDes, and network switching/physical layer connectivity. These form the highest Bill-of-Materials (BOM) value in TPU systems. BofA estimates Google's 5-year capex could reach $1.5-$2T, with TPU systems representing 25-30% ($400B-$600B TAM). Within this, Broadcom is projected to hold a 55-60% value share ($250B-$350B), Marvell 10-20% ($50B-$100B), and MediaTek 20-30% in lower-value, cost-optimized chips. The report emphasizes Broadcom's entrenched position through long-term agreements locked until CY31, increasing silicon content per TPU generation, and high unit value creating a competitive barrier. It sets a $530 price target for Broadcom (30x CY27 P/E), viewing current valuation as attractive given growth certainty from AI and locked leadership. Downsides include semiconductor cycles, customer concentration, and debt. In conclusion, while competition reshapes the supply chain for peripheral chips, the core high-value structure and Broadcom's dominance in compute silicon remain intact.

Semiconductor Mid-Game Check-in: How Much Left in the Tail-End Rally?

Semiconductor Mid-Game Review: How Much is Left in the Rally? This analysis compares the current semiconductor market trend to NVIDIA's trajectory in 2024, drawing lessons on identifying market tops and bottoms. In July-August 2024, NVIDIA's stock fell 33%, triggered by a combination of "fundamental rumors" (Blackwell delays, antitrust probes) and "macro-driven asset selling" (BOJ rate hike leading to carry-trade unwinding). The low was marked by extreme panic selling across global markets. Key characteristics of a TOP include: Technical patterns like double tops or failure to break highs; Overcrowded and leveraged positioning (e.g., excessive retail and ETF inflows into a single stock like NVDA); High fragility where even a minor fundamental disappointment (e.g., a slight margin dip in stellar earnings) triggers a sharp correction. The practical action is to reduce exposure upon seeing technical warning signs combined with crowded trades. Key characteristics of a BOTTOM include: Technical reversal signals like a high-volume bullish engulfing pattern after a steep drop; Panic indicators hitting extremes (e.g., record VIX, major index crashes) signaling selling exhaustion; The downturn being driven by macro or systemic shocks unrelated to the company's core business fundamentals, creating a mispricing that quality companies eventually recover from. The conclusion is that while the current semiconductor rally may be in its later stages ("fish tail"), understanding these patterns—where tops form from crowded optimism and bottoms from panic unrelated to fundamentals—can help navigate remaining volatility.

Interoperability: There exists the potential for integration with Solana’s broader ecosystem, including various decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms. However, the details regarding specific integrations remain unspecified. Timeline of Key Events Here is a timeline that highlights significant milestones concerning DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN): 2023: The initial deployment of the token occurs on the Solana blockchain, marked by its contract address. 2024: DIGITAL GOLD gains visibility as it becomes available for trading on decentralized exchanges like PumpSwap, allowing users to trade it against SOL. 2025: The project witnesses sporadic trading activity and potential interest in community-led engagements, although no noteworthy partnerships or technical advancements have been documented as of yet. Critical Analysis Strengths Scalability: The underlying Solana infrastructure supports high transaction volumes, which could enhance the utility of $BITCOIN in various transaction scenarios. Accessibility: The potential low trading price per token could attract retail investors, facilitating wider participation due to fractional ownership opportunities. Risks Lack of Transparency: The absence of publicly known backers, developers, or an audit process may yield skepticism regarding the project's sustainability and trustworthiness. Market Volatility: The trading activity is heavily reliant on speculative behavior, which can result in significant price volatility and uncertainty for investors. Conclusion DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN) emerges as an intriguing yet ambiguous project within the rapidly evolving Solana ecosystem. While it attempts to leverage the “digital gold” narrative, its departure from Bitcoin's established role as a store of value underscores the need for a clearer differentiation of its intended utility and governance structure. Future acceptance and adoption will likely depend on addressing the current opacity and defining its operational and economic strategies more explicitly. Note: This report encompasses synthesised information available as of October 2023, and developments may have transpired beyond the research period.
