World Foundation has raised $52.5 million in a new funding round by selling WLD tokens with sales restrictions to strategic investors. The round was led by the digital asset-focused investment company Pantera Capital. Participants included Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto. The acquired tokens will be locked for 12 months.
The raised funds will be directed towards the global development of World ID — a digital identification system that allows users to verify they are real humans online without revealing their personal data. Verification is conducted using the Orb device, which creates a unique World ID and stores it on the user's smartphone. To protect privacy, the system utilizes advanced cryptographic methods and zero-knowledge proof technology.
The new funding coincides with the project's transition to the large-scale deployment phase. According to World Foundation, over 39 million people have joined the World Network, more than 18 million users have been verified via Orb, and the network has processed over 475 million World ID verification requests since its launch. In the future, the company plans to expand integration with corporate clients and developers through the recently introduced World ID 4.0 platform.
