一个成熟产业工人最昂贵的地方,也远不只是拥有两条手臂。零件出现轻微公差时怎么安装,拧紧过程中手感发生变化意味着什么,机器发出某种声音应该优先检查哪里,前一道工序出现轻微偏差以后下一步怎样补偿,这些经过多年形成的经验构成了工业生产中庞大的隐性知识。它们很少完整写进 SOP,却决定了一条生产线能不能真正稳定运行。

这恰恰是当前机器人最难跨越的一部分。能够在演示环境里把一个零件拿起来,与能够连续 8 小时、数千次稳定完成同一个动作,是两个完全不同的工程问题;能够完成一次装配,也不意味着能够承担真实产线要求的良率、节拍、安全以及昂贵的停线风险。对于许多机器人企业而言,从“可以做”走向“长期稳定地做”,依然是一段漫长的产业化道路。

所以从当下的技术现实来看,“几万名汽车工人马上会被人形机器人替代”显然是一种过度简化。今天更真实的情况可能是:技术的长期可能性被舆论提前兑现了,人们在机器人真正具备全面替代能力之前,就已经开始为那个未来感到不安。

但这并不意味着韩国现代汽车工人的忧虑毫无意义。恰恰相反,当一项技术有可能重新定义生产关系时,社会情绪的发酵往往会先于技术大规模成熟。这种提前出现的焦虑,未必是在准确预测明天,却可能已经抛出一个迟早要认真回答的问题。

重新理解卢德主义,他们真正担心的从来不只是一台机器

“卢德主义”今天经常被当成一个略带贬义的词。有人拒绝新技术,会被称为卢德主义者;有人对 AI 或者机器人提出担忧,也很容易被归入保守、反科技的一边。久而久之,卢德主义几乎成了“技术倒车”的代名词。

但历史上的卢德运动比这个标签复杂得多。19 世纪初英国纺织工业迅速机械化,参与卢德运动的许多人本身就是经过多年训练的熟练工匠。机器带来的并不只有更高的生产效率,它同时打破了旧有的技能体系、工资结构和劳动关系。原本稀缺的手艺可能迅速贬值,低技能劳动者可以借助机器进入生产,熟练工人的议价能力下降,一部分人的生计直接受到冲击。机器最终成为他们愤怒最直观的承载物。

200 多年以后再回头看,我们当然知道机器没有毁掉人类社会。工业革命最终创造了远比手工业时代庞大的经济规模,也创造了大量过去不存在的职业。因此,站在今天评价卢德分子似乎很容易:他们高估了机器带来的威胁,低估了技术进步创造新机会的能力。

可这种“事后正确”忽视了一个非常重要的问题。站在 1811 年的工人面前,他并不知道 100 年甚至 200 年以后全球经济会增长多少,也不知道新的职业会在什么时候出现。他能够感受到的只是自己的工资正在下降、技能正在贬值,下一份工作不知道在哪里。技术进步带来的总体收益通常需要很长时间才能扩散,但技术替代带来的成本,却可能在很短时间内集中落在某一群具体的人身上。

今天的现代汽车工人面对 Atlas,其实仍处于类似的位置。机器人企业会告诉他们自动化能够提高效率,经济学家会告诉他们新技术最终会创造新的岗位,科技公司会描绘一个人类摆脱重复劳动的未来,这些判断都可能成立。但工人真正关心的问题更加具体:自己的工位什么时候会消失?积累了 20 年的技能五年以后还值多少钱?企业依靠机器人获得的生产率提升,是否会有一部分成为员工的收益?如果产业转型确实需要承担成本,为什么成本应该首先落在被替代的人身上?

因此,把机器人时代重新出现的卢德情绪理解成一些人又开始恐惧新技术,其实是过于简化、标签化了。两百年前的纺织工人和今天的汽车工人,其实都在追问同一件事:机器创造了更高的效率以后,这份效率最终由谁分享?

最难的从来不是终局,而是怎么走到终后

马斯克描绘的,是一个“工作成为可选项”的社会。按照他的判断,到了 2036 年前后,AI 与机器人带来的生产力可能已经高到让“钱”本身变得没有今天这么重要,人们也不再必须为了生存而工作,劳动更多成为一种选择。

这样的终局当然足够诱人,但它有一个极其重要的隐含条件:机器人创造出来的巨大生产力以及它带来的物质极大丰富,必须最终能够被整个社会分享。

这种观点,有些人并不相信。就如著名学者张笑宇在《技术与文明:我们的时代与未来》所说的,“如果奴隶劳工受惠于科技进步,那也只是因为科技进步带来的生产力发展,让过去的奢侈品变成现在的大众消费品而已。”

如果机器属于少数企业,算力集中在少数企业,数据和资本同样集中在少数企业,而机器人创造出来的商品和服务仍然完全依赖原有的收入体系进行分配,那么生产效率不断提高,并不会自动让每个人获得更多财富。

要知道,在上一波互联网浪潮中,“技术权贵”这个词就已经成为硅谷企业家的标签。

这也是为什么马斯克最终必须提出“全民高收入”。某种意义上,他看起来站在卢德主义的另一个极端,最后却仍然需要回答两百年前卢德运动提出的问题——机器创造出来的财富究竟应该怎样分配。

真正复杂的也许并不是马斯克描绘的那个遥远终局。如果有一天机器人真的能够完成绝大多数必要劳动,社会或许已经形成了与之匹配的新收入制度、保障体系和社会契约。最容易发生冲突的,反而是今天通往那个未来的中间阶段,也是不少人预想的“阵痛期”。

机器人不会在某一天突然从替代 0%的岗位跳到替代 100%。更可能的情况是,它先替掉 5%,再替掉 10%,某些高度标准化的岗位首先减少,一部分技能开始贬值,一些人依靠 AI 和机器人成为生产率红利的直接受益者,另外一些人则首先承担转型成本。最坏的情况是,企业获得了更高的利润,但针对工人的再培训体系尚未成熟;新的岗位正在出现,却未必正好出现在失去旧岗位的人身边。

技术能力通常以连续曲线提高,社会制度却并不会自动跟着技术同步升级。这也是为什么《大空头》原型投资人Michael Burry 在回应马斯克关于 AI、机器人与全民高收入的判断时,会留下那句极具冲击力的话:“在那之前,会先发生革命。”

这句话是否过于悲观当然可以讨论,但它至少准确地点出了马斯克式未来主义最容易被略过的一段过程:从今天这个依靠劳动获取收入的社会,走向未来那个工作成为可选项的社会,中间几十年究竟怎么过去?

也因此,机器人时代再次出现的“卢德主义”,没有必要被简单嘲笑。砸毁机器当然阻挡不了产业革命,历史早已证明,当一种技术能够持续提高生产效率、降低生产成本,它最终很难依靠抵制被排除在社会之外。今天的人形机器人同样如此,只要成本继续下降、可靠性不断提高、投资回报率逐渐成立,它进入工厂、仓库、商业服务乃至家庭生活,就会成为一种长期产业趋势。

但承认趋势不可逆,也不意味着社会只能坐等技术决定一切。过去两百年的工业文明从来不只有发动机、电力、计算机和机器人的进步。八小时工作制、最低工资、职业安全、劳动合同、社会保险、产品责任以及各种工业标准,同样属于工业革命创造出来的制度遗产。很多规则最初都曾被视为对效率的限制,最终却构成了技术可以大规模进入社会的基础。

今天越来越多围绕人工智能、机器人、数据、安全与伦理出现的发展办法、管理办法、行业准则,其实正是新一轮技术革命重新寻找边界的过程。随着机器人真正进入生产和生活,这些规则还会变得越来越具体:机器人进入生产线应该经过怎样的劳资协商,自动化创造的生产率收益如何分配,因技术替代失去岗位的人由谁承担再培训成本,机器人造成安全事故以后责任如何认定,哪些高风险场景必须保留人在环,这些问题最终都会成为机器人产业化的一部分。

它们看起来没有机器人跑步、后空翻或者完成某个复杂操作那么令人兴奋,却很可能决定机器人能不能真正穿过技术展示和产业应用之间最后一道门。

“木受绳则直,金就砺则利。”绳墨看起来限制了木材的方向,却也让它最终可以成为栋梁。规范对于技术同样如此。真正成熟的技术乐观主义,并不需要假装技术不会制造问题。一个社会越相信机器人最终能够创造巨大的生产率,就越应该在生产率真正大规模释放以前,把利益分配、就业转型、安全责任和人的尊严放到桌面上提前讨论。

所以韩国现代汽车工人的焦虑或许确实来得有些早。今天的人形机器人距离成为一名真正可靠、能够长期顶替熟练工人的汽车工人,还有相当长的工程道路。但关于机器人真正进入工厂以后,社会应该怎样面对它的讨论,一点都不早。

甚至应该更早一些。
