Trump Crypto Project Delays Launch of Maldives-Linked Token

The cryptocurrency project backed by former U.S. President Donald Trump and his family, World Liberty Financial ($WLFI), has postponed plans to launch a token linked to the construction of a luxury resort in the Maldives, according to Bloomberg sources. The token sale, initially slated for 2027, is now delayed reportedly due to disrupted transportation in the region from the U.S. war with Iran. The project involved tokenizing investor income from the Trump International Hotel & Resort, a planned 100-villa complex set to open in 2030. The token was designed to offer returns from the resort's revenues. The delay's timing is unclear. World Liberty Financial is also exploring tokenization in other sectors like oil and gas. Its native token, $WLFI, showed little price movement on the news, trading around $0.05, down 88% from its all-time high in September 2025. Trump and his sons have launched several crypto ventures, including meme coins and mining. Trump reported earning about $1.4 billion from crypto in 2025. However, their public projects, like mining firm American Bitcoin and Trump Media and Technology Group, reported significant losses in Q2 2026.
