Solana has reduced its slot time to 350 milliseconds — for the first time since the network's launch, announced Jacob Creech, Vice President of Technology at the Solana Foundation.
"We have entered a new era — 350 ms. Next stop — 300 ms," Creech said in a Friday post on X.
Solana's average slot time at the time of publication was 360 ms, compared to the network's initial target of 400 ms, according to the Solana slot time tracker.
In June, the Solana Foundation presented plans to reduce the slot time from 400 to 200 ms, stating this would improve response speed and accelerate confirmations on the blockchain network. Three more 50 ms reductions are planned.
All four stages are expected to go live on the mainnet with the release of Agave v4.2 — a validator client developed by Anza. However, the timeline is preliminary.
SIMD-0525, the proposal to reduce the slot time, was approved and incorporated into the code on May 14.
