What is SOL?

Solana is a highly functional open source project that banks on blockchain technology’s permissionless nature to provide decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions. While the idea and initial work on the project began in 2017, Solana was officially launched in March 2020 by the Solana Foundation with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. To learn more about this project, check out our deep dive of Solana. The Solana protocol is designed to facilitate decentralized app (DApp) creation. It aims to improve scalability by introducing a proof-of-history (PoH) consensus combined with the underlying proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus of the blockchain. Because of the innovative hybrid consensus model, Solana enjoys interest from small-time traders and institutional traders alike. A significant focus for the Solana Foundation is to make decentralized finance accessible on a larger scale.

Bitwise Solana ETF Filing Keeps The SOL Fund Race Moving Beyond Theory

Bitwise's filing for a Solana ETF advances the conversation beyond theory, positioning SOL as the next potential major crypto fund asset after Bitcoin and Ethereum. This institutional signal doesn't guarantee price movement but shifts market attention and discussion, adding to the narrative of growing institutional demand. The filing's significance lies in it being part of a broader trend of multiple issuers targeting Solana, suggesting a forming asset category. For the market, the key is separating the confirmed development from speculation and watching for follow-through from other issuers, regulators, and large holders to see if this becomes a sustained trend or remains a single-day story. The focus should be on how this changes positioning and infrastructure over time, rather than predicting immediate approval.

Solana Priority Fee Specs Put Validator Economics Back In Focus

Solana's priority fee proposal SIMD-0096 refocuses attention on validator economics by clarifying how priority fees—extra payments for faster transaction inclusion—should be allocated. The key debate centers on directing these fees entirely to block-producing validators, which could reshape their incentives during high network demand. This matters because Solana's performance relies not just on software speed but also on economic design that ensures validators act to keep the network efficient and reliable. For SOL holders, the long-term impact on network security and validator incentives is more significant than any short-term price move. The development represents a concrete data point in understanding Solana's evolution as a high-performance blockchain, separate from the market's immediate reactions.

Rebound or liquidation? SOL at a make or break point!

Solana (SOL) traders are facing a critical juncture as market sentiment hits yearly lows. Trading volume has plummeted to approximately $2.27 billion, its lowest in 2026, while negative sentiment has surged significantly. This frustration stems from SOL's price performance lagging behind its growing ecosystem activity. Despite the prevailing negativity, which can sometimes precede a bullish reversal, the derivatives market shows a heavy skew towards long positions, with $7.4 billion in long exposure versus $3.1 billion in shorts. A major cluster of long liquidations sits around $61-$62, posing a risk if the price declines. Although technical indicators like the RSI are neutral and the MACD is positive, the upward momentum is cooling. SOL's price, near $77.95, is testing resistance. The crowded long positions remain a potential source of selling pressure, meaning SOL needs to break above recent highs to rebuild trader confidence and avoid a deeper downturn.

Fidelity Solana ETF Filing Keeps Custody Questions At The Centre Of The SOL Fund Race

The race for a spot Solana ETF is shifting focus from speculation to practical operational details, with a new filing highlighting custody as a central and unresolved challenge. As asset managers like VanEck and Bitwise join the competition, the conversation is moving toward the technical and regulatory frameworks required for approval, similar to the path taken for Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. Custody credibility—how the underlying SOL tokens are securely held and controlled—is a critical hurdle given Solana's distinct technical and regulatory profile. For investors, key signals to watch will be SEC responses, detailed custody disclosures, and language around staking or market surveillance, rather than headline enthusiasm. This development represents a concrete step in Solana's institutionalization, but its ultimate impact depends on subsequent regulatory and market follow-through.

Solana Priority Fee Specs Put Validator Rewards And Burn Mechanics In The Spotlight

Solana has released updated priority fee specifications, drawing attention to validator rewards and fee burn mechanics. This technical update is significant as it addresses network economics, user costs, and validator incentives, especially during periods of high demand. While not a market-defining event, it represents an ongoing refinement of Solana's core protocol. For developers and traders, the changes highlight the importance of sustainable network infrastructure and incentive structures. The proposal contributes to broader discussions on fee distribution and network sustainability, underscoring that consistent technical improvements are crucial for long-term project viability in a selective market environment.
