According to a Reuters report citing Russia's Interfax news agency, Russia is accusing Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov of aiding terrorism.
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has formally charged Telegram founder Pavel Durov with aiding terrorist activity and announced an international warrant for his arrest.
The FSB stated that the charges relate to Telegram's failure to remove content allegedly used by Ukrainian intelligence services and terrorist and extremist organizations to prepare and coordinate sabotage, terrorist activities, and cyber fraud in Russia.
The FSB claimed that specific content on Telegram was used to organize illegal activities on Russian territory, leading to a case being opened against Durov on charges of aiding terrorism.
Neither Durov nor Telegram has commented on the charges, and this development comes amid ongoing legal proceedings against Durov in France.
As you may recall, in August 2024, Durov was arrested in France and faced 12 charges, mostly related to claims that inadequate content moderation on Telegram led to issues such as child sexual abuse and drug trafficking.
Durov, initially arrested, was later released, but the legal process continues.
However, last month, The Open Network, the blockchain that is Telegram's own interface, changed the name of its token from Toncoin (TON) to Gram ($GRAM).
In light of the recent developments, the price of $GRAM has fallen by approximately 2%, but at the time of writing, it continues to trade around $1.40.
