Belarus Restricts Access to Major Cryptocurrency Exchange Websites

Abstract

Belarus has restricted access to several major cryptocurrency exchange websites, including Bybit, Bitget, and OKX, as reported by the local news portal Onliner. The decision was made by the country's Ministry of Information, and the website addresses have been added to a restricted access list maintained by the state telecommunications supervision enterprise, BelGIE. Attempts to access Bybit via local internet service providers result in a block page citing the Ministry's decision based on the Law on Mass Media. Notably, the websites of other major exchanges, including Binance, Kucoin, and MEXC, remained accessible for viewing and login as of 22:30 Moscow time. The report also highlights that the restriction lists do not include the addresses for Binance and Kucoin. This move follows a recent announcement from the end of November that Belarus has introduced centralized registers of crypto wallets used for obtaining illicit income, as stated by the Chairman of the State Control Committee, Vasily Gerasimov.

In Belarus, websites of a number of major cryptocurrency exchanges, including Bybit, Bitget, and OKX, have been added to the restricted access list. As reported by the local information portal Onliner, the decision was made by the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus.

The website addresses of the platforms were added to the restricted access list maintained by the unitary enterprise for telecommunications supervision "BelGIE".

When attempting to access the Bybit exchange website through local providers, a block page appears with the text: "Access to the information resource is restricted based on a decision by the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus, made in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus 'On Mass Media'."

Other major exchanges, including Bitget, OKX, Binance, Kucoin, and MEXC, remain accessible for viewing and login, as of 22:30 Moscow time.

Notably, the list does not include the website addresses of the Binance and KuCoin exchanges. Although, as of 22:00, the listed Bitget and OKX are accessible for viewing and login.

At the end of November, it was reported that the Republic of Belarus introduced centralized registries of crypto wallets used for obtaining criminal income. This was announced by the Chairman of the State Control Committee (SCC), Vasily Gerasimov, speaking at a plenary meeting of the Eurasian Group (EAG) on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism.

Anthropogenic Artificial Intelligence Breaks HAWK-256 in 60 Hours, Sparking Concerns Over Bitcoin

An unpublished Anthropic AI model, Claude Mythos Preview, broke the post-quantum signature scheme HAWK-256 in about 60 hours at a cost of roughly $100,000. The AI uncovered a previously unknown symmetry in HAWK's design, reducing its security effectiveness by 50% and slashing the required work from ~2^64 to ~2^38 operations. The algorithm, a candidate in NIST's post-quantum cryptography evaluation, was subsequently withdrawn by its creators. This event does not pose an immediate threat to Bitcoin, as Bitcoin never used HAWK-256. Bitcoin currently relies on ECDSA and Schnorr signatures on the secp256k1 elliptic curve, which are unrelated. However, the incident significantly changes a key assumption in Bitcoin's post-quantum roadmap: AI is making the testing and potential breaking of complex cryptographic systems faster and more affordable. The development intensifies the debate on when Bitcoin should begin its transition to quantum-resistant cryptography. Proposals like BIP-360 (introducing P2QRH outputs using NIST-approved ML-DSA/SLH-DSA) and BIP-361 (phasing out ECDSA) are already in motion, having bypassed HAWK. The core challenge is whether AI-assisted cryptanalysis could compromise these intended replacement algorithms before the network completes its migration. Analysts warn that AI is accelerating cryptanalysis, compressing security timelines. Combined with quantum computing advances, this underscores the urgency for Bitcoin's transition. Reports estimate roughly 6.7 million BTC (worth nearly $600 billion) could be vulnerable to a sufficiently advanced quantum computer, with a non-trivial probability of such a machine existing by 2035. The primary issue is no longer solely hardware development but whether the network can execute a successful protocol upgrade in time.

Observation of Data on the Top Six Cryptocurrency Protocols: Revenue Continues to Grow, So Why Aren't Token Prices Rising?

Despite generating impressive revenue, many top cryptocurrency protocols struggle to translate this success into token price appreciation. This analysis of six major protocols (Aave, Aerodrome, Hyperliquid, Pump, Sky, Uniswap) examines the disconnect, focusing on revenue generation, distribution, and tokenomics. While these protocols collectively earned over $726 million in the first half of 2026, token performance largely lagged due to factors like imbalanced token emissions, unclear value capture mechanisms, and equity-token separations that disadvantage holders. Key findings reveal that not all revenue is equal for token holders. Protocols differ significantly in how they allocate income. Hyperliquid, for instance, directs 100% of its revenue to holders via buybacks and burns, correlating with strong token performance. Others, like Aerodrome, Sky, and Uniswap, showed negative net token flows when accounting for high token emissions used for incentives, offsetting holder benefits. The article highlights two primary value capture methods: buybacks/burns and direct fee distribution (e.g., ve-tokenomics models). The analysis concludes that high revenue alone doesn't guarantee token growth. Investors must scrutinize a protocol's sustainable revenue sources, how that value is shared with token holders, and the associated token release schedules and supply pressures. The future points towards greater alignment between protocol success and tokenholder rewards, but only for projects that seriously address all three pillars: revenue, distribution, and emissions.
