CME Group has turned on around-the-clock trading for its cryptocurrency futures and options, opening the regulated derivatives markets through the weekend for the first time.
The change took effect on Friday, May 29, and lets clients trade the contracts at any
hour, any day, on the CME Globex platform.
The shift ends a long-standing quirk of regulated crypto derivatives, which until now shut down on weekends and outside set daily hours even as the underlying tokens kept trading nonstop.

Movement pivots to stablecoin payments as the layer-2 boom loses momentum
Movement, a project originally designed to linkblockchains built using the Move programming language with Ethereum, is pivoting toward cross-border payments, remittances and dollar savings products, reflecting a broader shift across the increasingly crowded layer-2 landscape.

The company behind the blockchain said Tuesday that it had secured access to licensed payment systems in the U.S., Canada and European Union, and would focus on building stablecoin-based settlement infrastructure for emerging markets.

The direction change comes as a number of layer-2 projects reassess their original scaling-focused roadmaps amid growing competition and declining differentiation among networks. With dozens of Ethereum scaling chains now competing for users, liquidity and developer attention, some projects are turning toward payments and real-world financial applications as a path to growth.

Open interest across bitcoin futures markets has climbed to approximately 773,000 $BTC, a level last seen only a handful of times on record, according to Coinglass data. Previous peaks have occurred during local market tops. The current positioning suggests leveraged traders are betting on a quick price rebound rather than trimming risk.
That growing leverage is also reflected in perpetual futures funding rates, which have risen to roughly 10% annualized, according to Coinglass data. Positive funding means long traders are paying shorts to maintain positions. As bitcoin continues to fall, long leverage liquidations occur, sending the price lower.
