The minority chain created by BIP-110 supporters in the Bitcoin network is significantly lagging behind the main Bitcoin chain $BTC.
Following a divergence that occurred after Bitcoin block 961,632, the Roughnecks mining pool, which supports BIP-110, was only able to produce blocks 961,632 and 961,633. During the same period, the main Bitcoin chain progressed to block 961,651, outpacing the BIP-110 chain by 18 blocks.
The chain split coincided with a period when the Bitcoin mining difficulty was adjusted to 127.48 T. Block creation time slowed significantly, as the BIP-110 chain, despite having far less computational power compared to the main $BTC network, continued to operate at the same mining difficulty.
Matthew Crater, a BIP-110 supporter, acknowledged that a "very significant change" in computational power would be required for the minority chain to catch up and overtake the main Bitcoin chain again.
In light of these events, some BIP-110 supporters have begun discussing the possibility of switching to a different Proof-of-Work mining algorithm to enhance the resilience of their current chain.
The BIP-110 proposal stands out as controversial and aims to limit certain transaction patterns and data usage within the Bitcoin network.
