Abstract

Demand for crypto ETFs is cooling off rapidly, with Bitcoin-focused funds experiencing their biggest weekly outflow since April. After a strong period of inflows, investors pulled money out for four of the five trading sessions last week. Total weekly net outflows reached $389.7 million. Fidelity's FBTC saw the largest single outflow at $153.2 million. Other major funds like Grayscale's GBTC ($88.3M), BlackRock's IBIT ($78.9M), ARK 21Shares' ARKB ($70.3M), and Bitwise's BITB ($31.6M) also recorded significant withdrawals. A rare bright spot was Grayscale's Bitcoin Mini Trust, which attracted nearly $76 million in new capital. Ether ETFs also ended the week with a small net outflow of approximately $2.26 million. In contrast, smaller altcoin ETFs showed more resilience. Solana ETFs led with $10.26 million in weekly inflows, while products tracking XRP and HYPE also saw positive flows, indicating selective investor interest persists in specific cryptocurrencies. The shift in sentiment occurred as macroeconomic data provided mixed signals. July's CPI and PPI figures largely met or came in below expectations, supporting hopes for interest rate cuts. However, Bitcoin ETFs, often used as a liquid tool for institutional crypto exposure, bore the brunt of the selling pressure as capital rotated away.

Frenzied demand for cryptocurrency ETFs has quickly waned.

After Bitcoin funds had their best week since April, investors reduced their positions for most of the next five trading sessions. The selling was widespread, sustained, and concentrated on some of the market's largest products.

By Friday's close, Bitcoin ETFs had experienced four down sessions out of five.

Bitcoin Gives Back Some of Its August Gains

The week began with a $144.67 million outflow from Bitcoin ETFs, ending a five-day streak of inflows carried over from the previous week.

Tuesday brought only brief relief. Following a net inflow of $4.89 million, driven by a $50.20 million infusion into BlackRock's IBIT, outflows of $61.16 million on Wednesday and $131.13 million on Thursday ensued. Another $57.63 million left the funds on Friday.

Weekly losses reached $389.7 million.

The largest outflow — $153.2 million — came from Fidelity's FBTC fund. Grayscale's GBTC fund lost $88.3 million, and BlackRock's IBIT fund recorded a net outflow of $78.9 million. ARK 21Shares' ARKB fund lost $70.3 million, and Bitwise's BITB lost $31.6 million. Franklin Templeton's EZBC fund saw an outflow of $23.9 million.

Hashdex's DEFI fund also lost $4.3 million as investors continued to exit ahead of its planned liquidation. Grayscale's Bitcoin Mini Trust was one of the few winners, adding $75.98 million. Morgan Stanley's MSBT fund attracted $7.08 million.

Ether Price Holds Mostly Steady While Altcoins Find Buyers

Ether ETFs ended the week with a net outflow of approximately $2.26 million.

Monday saw an outflow of $14.59 million, followed by another outflow of $1.76 million on Tuesday. Demand improved later in the week: inflows of $7.38 million came on Wednesday and $6.72 million on Thursday. No net flows were observed on Friday.

Smaller cryptocurrency ETFs showed more resilient results.

Solana funds led the altcoin group with a weekly inflow of $10.26 million. Most of this came on Monday ($8.83 million), followed by a $1.43 million inflow on Tuesday.

$HYPE ETF products attracted $2.74 million, with all of it arriving on Monday. $XRP-based products attracted $2.25 million, with the entire weekly gain occurring on Thursday.

The macroeconomic landscape gave investors much to ponder. The headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 3.4% year-over-year in July, while core inflation increased by 2.5%; both figures matched expectations. The monthly core CPI rose 0.2%. Labor market data softened somewhat: initial jobless claims rose to 209,000, exceeding forecasts of 202,000. Producer prices also eased: the Producer Price Index (PPI) in July rose 4.7% year-over-year, below the forecast of 4.9% and down from the previous 5.5%.

These metrics supported interest rate expectations throughout the week. Bitcoin ETFs, often one of the most liquid institutional tools for managing cryptocurrency risk, bore the brunt of the selling pressure.

Weekly reports still showed demand in other market segments. Solana, $XRP, and $HYPE funds closed in the green, indicating investors continued to make selective bets on cryptocurrencies even as capital flows into Bitcoin sharply turned defensive.

Trump-Backed Company World Liberty Financial Partners with Chinese AI Company of Limited Access to Provide Artificial Intelligence Services

According to a Reuters report, Trump-backed cryptocurrency company World Liberty Financial is linked to WorldClaw, a Hong Kong-based platform providing access to Chinese AI models that the U.S. government has flagged as security threats. WorldClaw's platform features AI models from Chinese companies like Alibaba, Baidu, Z.ai, DeepSeek, and Moonshot, some of which are designated by U.S. entities as tied to the Chinese military or subject to export restrictions. The connection is facilitated by World Liberty's dollar-pegged stablecoin, $USD1, which is accepted for payment on WorldClaw. The Trump family benefits from interest generated by the stablecoin's reserves, and token sales have earned them over $1.4 billion. A World Liberty executive previously advised WorldClaw on integrating $USD1. Security experts warn that using these Chinese AI models could expose users to surveillance or malicious code. WorldClaw claims over 10,000 users and processes 50 million queries daily, partly due to the lower cost of Chinese models. Both companies and the White House deny any conflict of interest, stating the platform helps American AI firms access international markets and that listing models does not imply endorsement. External critics, however, argue it is hypocritical to profit from Chinese AI tools while the U.S. government aims to counter the rise of Chinese AI.

Moscow's Mining Ban Takes Effect: What Will Be the Consequences?

Mining has been banned in Moscow, the Moscow region, and parts of the Kursk region from August 15, with the prohibition set to last until December 31, 2032. The measure, requested by regional authorities, aims to prevent electricity shortages caused by energy-intensive mining equipment. This follows the legalization of cryptocurrency mining in Russia in November 2024, with restrictions now in place across 16 regions. Initially a blanket ban, an exception was introduced in March 2025 for miners using their own power generation, such as gas piston units or diesel generators, independent of the national grid. Major industry players had already begun shifting to on-site gas generation near gas fields to bypass grid limitations. While a trend emerged in 2025 to combine mining with AI computing infrastructure, this was complicated by authorities granting data centers (with a ban on mining inside them) preferential status as communication facilities. Experts state the new Moscow-area ban will significantly reshape Russia's mining geography but have a minimal global impact on Bitcoin's hash rate. The primary consequence will be a stronger industry shift to regions with energy surpluses, clear connection terms, and willingness to handle such loads. Moscow was already a contentious location due to high competition for power from data centers, industry, and urban infrastructure. For the Kursk region, the ban is also linked to infrastructure stability in border areas. The ban accelerates a market split. Large, legal operators will relocate equipment or seek sites with self-generation, while smaller or semi-legal miners operating in urban or industrial networks face higher costs and potential displacement into illegality. Industry participants note that post-2024 legalization had an unintended effect, with some major companies closing due to financial issues. Russian miners also face global pressures like low Bitcoin prices relative to mining costs, rising electricity prices, and the approaching 2028 halving, forcing some to shut down equipment.

Strive Purchases 79 Bitcoins, Bolstering Its Corporate Bitcoin Reserve to $1.27 Billion

Strive, a Dallas-based public asset manager, has added 79 Bitcoins to its corporate treasury between August 10 and 14, purchased at an average price of approximately $63,231 per coin. With Bitcoin recently trading around $62,895, the total value of the company's Bitcoin reserve is now estimated at about $1.273 billion. This latest acquisition solidifies Strive's position among the top public corporate holders of Bitcoin, ranking approximately seventh. The purchase is part of an ongoing accumulation strategy throughout 2026, rather than a single large investment. Strive's Bitcoin strategy accelerated following its stock-for-stock merger with Semler Scientific, which transferred a significant Bitcoin position to its balance sheet. The company funds additional purchases using at-the-market (ATM) equity offerings and proprietary preferred shares, providing capital without traditional debt but potentially diluting existing common shareholders. Strive maintains a "debt-free" balance sheet with approximately $154.8 million in cash and equivalents and holds preferred shares in Strategy (STRC) valued at around $47.9 million. Its core business remains asset management, with Bitcoin serving as a long-term treasury reserve, distinguishing it from miners or corporations making occasional allocations. The company's stock (ticker ASST on Nasdaq) remains volatile and closely tied to Bitcoin's price and Strive's capital-raising mechanisms. Despite recent purchases, the stock has faced pressure from dilution concerns and broader crypto market movements. Investors now largely view Strive as a leveraged bet on Bitcoin. Future reports will be key to monitoring whether the company's strategy of increasing its Bitcoin holdings per share is successful as it aims to build one of the market's largest public Bitcoin treasuries.

DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN): A Comprehensive Analysis Introduction to DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN) DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN) is a blockchain-based project operating on the Solana network, which aims to combine the characteristics of traditional precious metals with the innovation of decentralized technologies. While it shares a name with Bitcoin, often referred to as “digital gold” due to its perception as a store of value, DIGITAL GOLD is a separate token designed to create a unique ecosystem within the Web3 landscape. Its goal is to position itself as a viable alternative digital asset, although specifics regarding its applications and functionalities are still developing. What is DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN)? DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN) is a cryptocurrency token explicitly designed for use on the Solana blockchain. In contrast to Bitcoin, which provides a widely recognized value storage role, this token appears to focus on broader applications and characteristics. Notable aspects include: Blockchain Infrastructure: The token is built on the Solana blockchain, known for its capacity to handle high-speed and low-cost transactions. Supply Dynamics: DIGITAL GOLD has a maximum supply capped at 100 quadrillion tokens (100P $BITCOIN), although details regarding its circulating supply are currently undisclosed. Utility: While precise functionalities are not explicitly outlined, there are indications that the token could be utilized for various applications, potentially involving decentralized applications (dApps) or asset tokenization strategies. Who is the Creator of DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN)? At present, the identity of the creators and development team behind DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN) remains unknown. This situation is typical among many innovative projects within the blockchain space, particularly those aligning with decentralized finance and meme coin phenomena. While such anonymity may foster a community-driven culture, it intensifies concerns about governance and accountability. Who are the Investors of DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN)? The available information indicates that DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN) does not have any known institutional backers or prominent venture capital investments. The project seems to operate on a peer-to-peer model focused on community support and adoption rather than traditional funding routes. Its activity and liquidity are primarily situated on decentralized exchanges (DEXs), such as PumpSwap, rather than established centralized trading platforms, further highlighting its grassroots approach. How DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN) Works The operational mechanics of DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN) can be elaborated on based on its blockchain design and network attributes: Consensus Mechanism: By leveraging Solana’s unique proof-of-history (PoH) combined with a proof-of-stake (PoS) model, the project ensures efficient transaction validation contributing to the network's high performance. Tokenomics: While specific deflationary mechanisms have not been extensively detailed, the vast maximum token supply implies that it may cater to microtransactions or niche use cases that are still to be defined. Interoperability: There exists the potential for integration with Solana’s broader ecosystem, including various decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms. However, the details regarding specific integrations remain unspecified. Timeline of Key Events Here is a timeline that highlights significant milestones concerning DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN): 2023: The initial deployment of the token occurs on the Solana blockchain, marked by its contract address. 2024: DIGITAL GOLD gains visibility as it becomes available for trading on decentralized exchanges like PumpSwap, allowing users to trade it against SOL. 2025: The project witnesses sporadic trading activity and potential interest in community-led engagements, although no noteworthy partnerships or technical advancements have been documented as of yet. Critical Analysis Strengths Scalability: The underlying Solana infrastructure supports high transaction volumes, which could enhance the utility of $BITCOIN in various transaction scenarios. Accessibility: The potential low trading price per token could attract retail investors, facilitating wider participation due to fractional ownership opportunities. Risks Lack of Transparency: The absence of publicly known backers, developers, or an audit process may yield skepticism regarding the project's sustainability and trustworthiness. Market Volatility: The trading activity is heavily reliant on speculative behavior, which can result in significant price volatility and uncertainty for investors. Conclusion DIGITAL GOLD ($BITCOIN) emerges as an intriguing yet ambiguous project within the rapidly evolving Solana ecosystem. While it attempts to leverage the “digital gold” narrative, its departure from Bitcoin's established role as a store of value underscores the need for a clearer differentiation of its intended utility and governance structure. Future acceptance and adoption will likely depend on addressing the current opacity and defining its operational and economic strategies more explicitly. Note: This report encompasses synthesised information available as of October 2023, and developments may have transpired beyond the research period.
