‘January effect’ hits as Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs see $645mln inflows
The "January Effect" has hit digital assets, with US Spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs seeing a significant rebound of $645.8 million in net inflows on January 2, 2026. This follows a period of substantial outflows totaling over $6 billion in November and December 2025. BlackRock's IBIT led Bitcoin inflows with $287.4 million, while Grayscale's ETHE led for Ethereum. This marked the largest single-day inflow for Bitcoin ETFs in 35 days and for Ethereum ETFs in 15 days. Despite BTC and ETH prices being down slightly over the past month, they saw gains of nearly 2% on the day. The surge in institutional demand, following a record liquidation event in October 2025, raises the question of whether this is the start of a new bull cycle.
