In Uzbekistan, the construction of data centers for mining is underway as part of a project with a total cost of over $5 billion, reports Spot.kz. This was announced by the Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes (Supreme Council) of Karakalpakstan, Amanbay Orynbayev, during the ceremony for launching new industrial and service facilities.
Orynbayev noted that, following the decision to transform the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan (northwest Uzbekistan) into a mining zone, six data centers are being built there. Three of them are intended for cryptocurrency mining. The total cost of the project is $5.11 billion.
The announcement that a special mining zone, Bes Qala Mining Valley, would be established in Uzbekistan, encompassing the entire territory of Karakalpakstan, was made in April of this year. This was done to enhance the region's investment attractiveness, create new jobs, and develop green energy.
Until January 1, 2035, miners' income in this zone will not be subject to taxes. They can obtain electricity from the unified grid or through all types of renewable energy sources and hydrogen power plants. Additionally, they can set up greenhouses heated by mining operations.
A large wind power plant worth $3.3 billion is being built in the region in partnership with the Saudi company ACWA Power. Two other wind power plants, Nukus I and Nukus II, with a total cost of over $370 million, have already been launched.
According to Orynbayev, over the past 10 years, the number of entrepreneurs in the region has increased by 2.5 times, and the volume of foreign investments has grown by 500 times.
