The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has canceled an open meeting scheduled for Friday. The commission was to consider new cryptocurrency regulation rules at this meeting.
SEC stated on Thursday that the meeting is canceled. The commission had planned to propose an "adapted placement regime for certain investment contracts related to crypto assets."
SEC told Reuters that the meeting is being postponed due to an "unforeseen scheduling issue." The agency did not immediately respond to Cointelegraph's request for comment.
The Senate has gone on its August recess without voting on the CLARITY Act, which would have provided a comprehensive regulatory framework for financial regulators overseeing the crypto industry.
SEC Chairman Paul Atkins told CNBC on July 27 that the agency is "ready, willing, and able to develop rules" for digital assets if the Senate does not pass the CLARITY Act.
