Bitcoin has depreciated by 48% compared to its all-time high, impacting the fortune of Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. According to the analytical platform Arkham, wallets linked to Nakamoto hold approximately 1.096 million $BTC. While at the record price of $126,198 the total value of these assets reached $138 billion, by August 2026, at a price around $65,000, this figure had fallen to $71.19 billion. Consequently, losses amounted to roughly $67 billion. However, all the coins remain untouched, meaning the losses are still unrealized.
Currently, Bitcoin is trading at levels last seen in September 2024. Yet, in this bear market, the coin's decline is less severe than during previous cycles, when the drawdown reached almost 80%.
Meanwhile, the market situation does not look very optimistic. Glassnode co-founder Raphael Schultze-Kraft explains that spot volumes and the daily turnover ratio are extremely low, indicating weak investor interest. Activity in spot-based Bitcoin exchange-traded funds has also declined.
Overall, bearish sentiment prevails in the market, although a recovery in the long term is possible with increased demand. For now, Strategy continues to offload its $BTC reserves, selling 1,690 bitcoins between August 3rd and 9th to repurchase STRC shares. The organization's dollar reserve has now grown to $4.65 billion, while its holdings of the leading cryptocurrency have fallen to 840,447 $BTC.
