跟风元宇宙?为什么大型企业投资这个新兴赛道?

去年12月,彭博社的分析师发布了他们对元宇宙价值的预测引起了轰动。元宇宙是由相互关联的3D虚拟空间定义的在线通信的未来愿景。

分析师预测,截止2024年,整个元宇宙市场价值可能达到8000亿美元。

分析师们表示,“随着视频游戏制造商持续将现有的游戏提升为类似于社交网络的3D在线世界,元宇宙的市场机会可以扩大到包含音乐会和体育赛事等现场娱乐活动,并分享社交媒体的广告收入。”

另外还有一些更远的预测。今年3月,花旗的投资分析师估计,截止到2030年,整个元宇宙市场价值将达到13万亿美元。

英伟达首席执行官黄仁勋声称,元宇宙将创造规模经济,且有可能使当前经济本身相形见绌。

“从特定的角度来看,这些预测可能看起来过于乐观,但我认为其中存在充分的理由让我们相信它们。”埃森哲元宇宙战略和扩展现实负责人NickRosa说道。

“元宇宙可能是我们在过去20年中看到的自‘云’以来最大的数字化转型过程,因为市场对用户体验、产品设计以及支撑它的整个生态系统的转型都有着巨大的需求。”Rosa表示,“这对所有参与者来说都是一个巨大的机会。”

元宇宙并购

这些对元宇宙极高的期望导致了一些令人眼花缭乱的收购案。

根据GlobalData收集的并购数据表示,过去18个月内,元宇宙产业相关的并购总价值达到了770亿美元,买家抢购了从视频游戏发行商到VR头显制造商的所有目标。

视频游戏公司对于寻求购买元宇宙的公司来说是特别有吸引力的目标,因为现代游戏建立在以高度参与的内容为基础的大规模社区之上,这也是元宇宙的基础。

今年1月份微软以690亿美元收购游戏巨头动视暴雪是与元宇宙相关的最大一笔收购,微软称这次收购为“为元宇宙奠定基石”。

除此之外,今年早些时候,视频游戏开发商Zynga也被美国主要的游戏开发与发行商Take-TwoInteractive以7亿美元的价格收购。

除了游戏之外,投资者几乎还在其他所有在线互动领域,包括工作场所协作中寻求元宇宙策略。今年4月,一家总部位于美国的公司通过SPAC特别并购上市以6.55亿美元收购了为3D办公室提供虚拟现实解决方案的EONReality。

甚至约会产业领域也正在转向元宇宙。去年2月,拥有包括Tinder在内的流行约会软件的MatchGroup以17亿美元收购了韩国视频消息和社交媒体公司Hyperconnect。

MatchGroup之后透露,它正在与Hyperconnect合作开发一款名为“SingleTown”的平台,这是一个单身人士可以见面、约会的虚拟空间。

除此之外,将虚拟现实与物理世界相结合的硬件供应商也成为了香饽饽。去年5月,为AR智能眼镜提供显示屏的牛津公司WaveOptics被Snap以5亿美元的价格收购。

同年8月,TikTok的母公司字节跳动以7亿美元的价格收购了VR头显制造商PicoInteractive。

Rosa表示,元宇宙市场并购的繁荣反映了人们越来越相信在虚拟空间中是真的可以赚到真金白银的。“从技术角度来看,目前有一场大革命正在发生。”

“我们正在进入一个新的时代,如果你有一个关于虚拟世界的产品的奇思妙想,无论你出生在哪里,你都可以赚很多钱。”他补充道。

市场研究和咨询公司TECHnalysisResearch的总裁BobO'Donnell对此也表示赞同。“这是进行类似收购的最佳时机,因为我们正处于元宇宙的早期阶段,大型科技公司都正在寻找一些独具创新的小公司,并将它们整合到更大的解决方案中。”

通过这些交易,收购方正在推行O'Donnell所描述的“公共研发”战略,该战略使那些由小型风投支持的公司进入一个有许多悬而未决的问题的领域,而投资者和大企业则在其中挑选出赢家。

然而,关于元宇宙仍有许多悬而未决的问题。其中一些是技术性的。“VR的计算能力与CPU和GPU产生的热量成正比。”Rosa解释说,“那么我们该如何制造出既能够舒适地佩戴,又可以散热且具有计算能力的眼镜呢?”

Rosa相信工业行业将成功地创造出更舒适、更轻便的解决方案。“第一代设备将非常轻薄,一两年后将会出现另一代VR智能眼镜,它可以将虚拟图像清晰地投射到你的视网膜上。”

其他一些问题则更加人性化,比如长时间使用VR对心理健康的影响,以及佩戴VR头显是否会被整个社会所接受。Rosa认为,这取决于是否存在超出Z世代兴趣的“大量用例”。

O'Donnell的观点则认为,元宇宙面临着比上述更大的障碍:人类对肢体接触的基本需求。

他提出疑问:“在疫情当下的世界里,每个人最想做的到底是什么?我们是想花更多的时间在电子屏幕上,还是想花更多的时间和身边的人一起做实际的事情?”
