BLOCKLORDS was developed by MetaKing Studios, which was founded by CEO David Johansson and COO Nicky Li. David Johansson co-founded and was the CEO of Seascape Network, a game ecosystem platform based on Substrate. He also served as Creative Director at Forgame Holdings Ltd and Shanghai UUZU Info Technology Co., Ltd. Nicky Li co-founded and was COO of Seascape Network and served as Project Manager at Yoozoo Games.
In May 2022, MetaKing Studios announced that it had raised $15 million in a seed funding round, led by Makers Fund and Bitkraft Ventures, with participation from Delphi Digital, Animoca Brands, Shima Capital, WW Ventures, Spartan Group, Huobi Ventures, and others.
