Ethereum fundamentals diverge from its price – Is this a bottom signal?

Abstract

Ethereum's fundamentals show strength despite its prolonged price decline since late 2025. The network hit a record 2.88 million daily transactions, though analytics firm Altcoin Vector noted 80% were low-quality "systematic noise." Positive developments include staking rate surpassing 30% and Ethereum dominating over 65% of the tokenized real-world asset market. Institutional demand also grew, with a 26% QoQ increase in ETH treasuries in Q4 2025. However, ETH price remains down 40% from its 2025 peak, struggling to hold $3k. Analysts suggest this divergence between weak price and strong fundamentals may signal a market bottom, similar to early 2023. Reclaiming $3,050 is crucial for a bullish outlook; failure could lead to a drop toward $2,600.

Ethereum’s fundamentals have been strong, despite the extended price consolidation observed since late 2025. In fact, according to Altcoin Vector, the altcoin section of the analytics firm Swissblock, the chain recently reached a record of 2.88 million transactions.

This could be perceived as massive network usage and broader activity, but Altcoin Vector cautioned that 80% of the activity was “systematic noise” and not high quality. The firm cited recent scaling efforts as the “unintended” impact of cheaper, lower-quality transactions.

Ethereum staking and tokenized markets explode

However, other network fundamentals have seen solid growth too. Ethereum staking, for example, crossed 30% for the first time, indicative of a strong appetite for yield and securing the network.

On the tokenization boom, inclusive of stablecoins, BlackRock recently noted that Ethereum controls over 65% of the overall tokenized real-world asset (RWA) market.

According to the world’s largest asset manager, if the traction continues, it could be beneficial to chains like Ethereum.

Away from the on-chain fundamentals, there has also been consistent institutional demand for ETH over the past few quarters. Ethereum treasuries, for example, bought 1.2 million ETH in Q4 2025 – A whopping 26% increase on a quarter-to-quarter (QoQ) basis, according to Bitwise.

Despite solid network traction, Ethereum’s [ETH] price was barely holding above $3k at press time. It was down 40% from the record level of $4.9k hit in 2025.

For Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan, however, the “divergence” between price and fundamentals might mean a market bottom is close.

“That’s the kind of divergence you get at the bottom of bear markets, when sentiment is down, but fundamentals are up. The last time we had such high-contrast data was Q1 2023—after which crypto prices soared for the next two years.”

Will ETH price follow fundamentals?

According to Altcoin Vector, for ETH to maintain its mid-term bullish prospect, the $3,050-level must be reclaimed and defended as support. If so, the upside targets would be $3,250 and $3,650.

Otherwise, stalling below $3k could embolden bears to drag the altcoin to $2.600, analysts at Altcoin Vector warned.

“Bearish perspective: Consolidating a new downward market structure below this pivot could pave the way for a move toward lows under $2,600.”

Final Thoughts

  • Ethereum’s transactions hit a record high of 2.8 million, but most of them were ‘systematic noise.’
  • Despite strong network traction on the staking and tokenization fronts, ETH’s recovery could be confirmed only if $3,050 is reclaimed as support.

Coldcard Hardware Wallet Hacked: Losses Mount Due to Vulnerable Seed Generation A critical vulnerability in Coldcard hardware wallets has led to a continued wave of fund thefts. According to Galaxy Research, the total stolen has reached 1,367.05 BTC (approx. $88.6 million) from 4,585 addresses, a significant increase from the initial 594.5 BTC reported on July 30, 2026. Most of the stolen funds remain on the attackers' addresses. The issue is not with the current firmware, which Coinkite has updated, but with seed phrases generated on vulnerable devices between March 2021 and the release of fixed firmware versions. Due to a programmer error, devices switched from using a hardware random number generator to the software-based Yasmarang generator, which was initialized with publicly accessible data like the chip's serial number. This made the seed phrases predictable through offline brute-force attacks, meaning wallets remain at risk until funds are moved to a new wallet generated with the patched firmware. Affected devices include Mk2/Mk3 with firmware 4.0.1–4.1.9 (and up to 5.0.3), Mk4/Mk5 up to version 5.6.0, and Q models up to 1.5.0Q. The only exceptions are seeds created with a high-entropy method like at least 50 independent dice rolls or a strong unique BIP-39 passphrase. All other owners must generate a new seed on the fixed firmware and transfer their assets. A case highlighting the human impact involves a 39-year-old long-term investor who lost 2 BTC (approx. $130,000) in minutes. He had accumulated the Bitcoin over eight years through physical labor, viewing it as a financial lifeline and a retirement plan in a country suffering from hyperinflation. His story underscores that even conservative "buy and hold in cold storage" strategies can be compromised by such underlying technical flaws. From a technical perspective, this incident echoes historical failures where weak random number generators undermined cryptographic security, challenging the assumption that offline storage is automatically foolproof.
