第一款超级流行的游戏是Atari于1972年开发的Pong,Pong是一个受欢迎的双人网球游戏,当时只有两个街区和一个球,玩家控制不同的街区并保证球不能越过其所在的街区。

Pong是对抗性游戏的开始,几十年后游戏产业成为了世界上最大的产业之一。

许多街机游戏都出现在Pong之后,而且要复杂得多,包括《吃豆人》和《太空侵略者》。

后来,随着游戏机的发明,电子游戏产业从街机场馆转移到了人们的家中。任天堂就是先驱者之一。任天堂当时的主要竞争对手是世嘉,并在整个80年代和90年代初在世界市场上竞争。

90年代后期,随着一款新的游戏机的推出,世嘉逐渐的淡出了用户的视野。索尼PlayStation的出现为游戏产业带来了巨大的转变。PS现在仍然被认为是游戏机的领头羊。
