What is Holo (HOT)

I. Project Introduction

Holo is a peer-to-peer hosting platform for distributed applications, aiming to build a bridge between Holochain applications and the existing internet. Unlike traditional blockchain projects, Holochain itself does not rely on a global blockchain ledger. Instead, it adopts an architecture more focused on peer-to-peer collaboration. Holo is responsible for making these applications accessible to ordinary users through familiar Web entry points. HOT is an ERC-20 token issued by Holo in 2018, designed to facilitate early ecosystem startup and the subsequent transition to HoloFuel.

2. Operating Mechanism

The core idea of Holo is to enable network participants to provide storage, bandwidth, and computing resources for hosting applications built on Holochain. According to current public information, during the alpha hosting phase before full deployment of the Holo platform, the project plans to accept HOT and certain fiat currencies as payment methods for services.

The project's future native settlement system is HoloFuel. According to official designs, HoloFuel will handle hosting service pricing, host revenue settlement, direct peer-to-peer payments, and high-frequency micro-payment functions. Until HoloFuel is fully implemented, the relevant micro-payment and direct host settlement mechanisms are not yet fully operational.

3. Team & Investment Info

Holo was founded by Arthur Brock and Eric Harris-Braun, both of whom are core contributors to the Holochain ecosystem. According to public information, Holo Ltd. is a cloud hosting company fully owned by the Holochain Foundation. It is responsible for advancing the Holo hosting network, HoloPorts, HoloFuel, and related product development.

In its early stage, the project was primarily funded through a public token sale in 2018. There have been no recent traditional institutional funding rounds positioned as a core part of the project narrative.

4. Token Info

The HOT token listed on HTX corresponds to the Ethereum ERC-20 version, with the contract address 0x6c6ee5e31d828de241282b9606c8e98ea48526e2. The total supply of HOT is 177,619,433,541 tokens. Initial distribution records state that 75% was for the public sale and 25% was allocated to the team and company.

HOT is not positioned as the final settlement currency for Holo’s long-term operation, but rather as a transition token representing future rights to HoloFuel. The official current design still maintains a 1:1 transition concept toward HoloFuel. However, it is explicitly stated that any future redemption or conversion services must be provided by third-party entities with appropriate regulatory compliance, and Holo Ltd. does not currently provide direct exchange, conversion, or redemption services.

5. Milestones

March 29, 2018: Holo public token sale launched, marking the beginning of HOT issuance.

January 26, 2023: Holochain Beta 0.1.0 was officially released, with the underlying framework entering a stable application testing phase.

May 26, 2025: The project announced the launch of HOT Layer 2 liquidity support on Arbitrum.

April 15, 2026: The "HOT to HoloFuel Technical Migration Test" was launched, initiating technical migration validation for test users.
