It stands as a remarkable example of a satirical idea evolving into a live on-chain implementation.

The concept of Gorbagana was originally proposed by Gabriel Shapiro (@lex_node), founder of MetaLeX, former General Counsel at Delphi Labs, and co-founder and Head of Legal Engineering at ZeroLaw. As a seasoned crypto lawyer focused on the intersection of law and decentralized systems, Shapiro has long advocated for bridging smart contracts with real-world legal frameworks. He conceived of Gorbagana as a satirical thought experiment during a discussion about trademark rights and decentralized governance. This idea was then brought to life by community developer @MidTermDev, who deployed it on-chain within 48 hours. Following a suspected account compromise and the launch of a new token, @MidTermDev stepped away. The project's ongoing development is now overseen by the CTO, with key contributors like @0rdlibrary and @Sarv_shaktiman playing vital roles.

GOR, Gorbagana's memecoin, was launched on Pump.fun with no allocation, no presale, and full community ownership.

On June 19, 2025, Gabriel Shapiro and Toly engaged in a social media discussion about trademark control and decentralized legitimacy, during which they proposed "Gorbagana" as the name for a potential fork chain.

Within 48 hours, developer @MidTermDev launched the GOR token and established the Gor chain, which swiftly garnered attention from the community.

On June 20, 2025, Toly publicly endorsed the project by responding with three trash can emojis.
