GTA 6 Hackers Demand $168,000 in Monero for Ad Placement on Leak Streams
A group of hackers, calling themselves CyberLeek and responsible for the massive Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) data leak, is now demanding 400 Monero (approximately $168,860) from anyone who wants to purchase a personalized advertising slot during their next stream showcasing the stolen materials. They are communicating exclusively via the private messenger Session and claim they will not advertise scams, gambling, or pornography.
The demand comes after publisher Take-Two Interactive issued subpoenas to Microsoft and Discord to identify the hackers. CyberLeek also previously promoted their own memecoin, CYBERLEEK, which surged nearly 39,000% in a week. They state that a higher market cap for their token will result in more GTA 6 gameplay and source code being leaked.
The hackers justify their actions as a protest against anti-consumer practices in the gaming industry, such as rising game prices, aggressive DRM, and shutting down old game servers. They claim proceeds will fund future attacks on the industry.
The legal advocacy group Stop Killing Games, which campaigns on similar issues, condemned the hackers' methods. They urged the public not to send them cryptocurrency, arguing that criminal actions harm the game's developers and do not legitimately protect consumer rights.
