Block's Stock Rose More Than 4% After Earnings and Revenue Beat Forecasts
Block (NYSE: XYZ) shares rose over 4% in after-hours trading after the payments company reported second-quarter results that surpassed Wall Street expectations. Adjusted earnings for the quarter ended June 30 were $1.02 per share, beating analyst forecasts of 87 cents. Quarterly profit reached $6.62 billion, exceeding estimates of approximately $6.49 billion.
The company, led by Jack Dorsey, also raised its full-year outlook, now projecting 2026 gross profit of $12.51 billion, up 21% year-over-year. Block highlighted its focus on non-GAAP metrics like gross profit and adjusted operating income, separating the volatility of its Bitcoin-related activities from core business performance. Preliminary estimates showed Cash App's Bitcoin ecosystem revenue was $1.8 billion for the quarter.
Growth was driven by Cash App, where gross profit surged 31% year-over-year, and Square's seller business, which grew 13%. Block's overall gross profit increased 25%. User activity within Cash App also rose, with active primary banking users and commerce enablement volume each up 17%, while consumer lending volumes jumped 59%. Square's payment volumes grew 13% overall.
Block reported a record adjusted operating margin of 27% and a 65% increase in adjusted diluted EPS. The company is implementing cost-cutting measures, including job reductions, and integrating AI tools more broadly. For 2026, Block forecasts gross profit growth of 21%, adjusted operating income growth of 67%, and adjusted diluted EPS growth of 70%.
