Over the past 24 hours, $HYPE has risen more than 17%, climbing from around $58 to a high of $72. This followed immediately after President Trump's statement that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is working on deploying a decentralized exchange in the United States. Trump made this statement on Wednesday at a White House meeting with leaders from the crypto, tech, and finance industries. "I understand Mike is also working to bring Hyperliquid into the United States in a fully compliant and legal manner," he said, referring to CFTC Chairman Michael Selig, and added that Selig is working very hard on this.
Breaking: hyperliquid:native stock jumped over 17% and surpassed $68 after President Trump stated that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is working to bring Hyperliquid to the U.S. market "in full compliance with legislation and laws."

This is significant because the CFTC has already approved U.S. platforms like Coinbase... pic.twitter.com/vScnKxvvGd
At the time of writing, $HYPE stock is trading above $70 and is less than 10% away from its all-time high of $76.95, set on June 16. It is worth noting that nothing has been approved yet, and there are no comments on what exactly the onshore Hyperliquid platform would entail, what registrations would be required, or how long it would take.
Some of the Platform's Most Vocal Critics Were in the Room
In the past, CME Group and ICE have pressured regulators for increased scrutiny of Hyperliquid over alleged price manipulation and sanctions exposure. Executives from this market segment were present at Wednesday's meeting. Trump's endorsement of the platform came in the presence of some of its strongest critics, who have been pushing for stricter rules for months.
US Access is the Whole Point
The world's largest and deepest derivatives market is in the United States, but Hyperliquid, despite controlling huge trading volumes in this market, still lacks access to it. Gaining access here opens the platform to a customer base and an entirely new pool of capital it has not seen before. This access will also inevitably test the platform's capabilities. A platform built entirely outside the framework of U.S. rules will have to demonstrate its ability to operate within them, which means the need for exchange registration, client identification, market surveillance, and sanctions compliance checks.
This year, the CFTC has already paved the way for regulated platforms like Coinbase Derivatives and Kalshi to list perpetual contracts. This has effectively narrowed the gap between offshore perpetual markets and federally regulated markets. Selig has also previously stated that regulators should expand existing rules to account for the capabilities of blockchain-based platforms, rather than letting them operate offshore.
Oil Traders Discovered Hyperliquid Before Washington Did
The expansion of Hyperliquid is no longer just a cryptocurrency story. JPMorgan analysts point to non-crypto traders using the blockchain to access commodities like oil during hours when traditional exchanges are closed. A geopolitical headline at 2 a.m. can now become a trading opportunity. This behavior is an example of convergence in practice, and it's why fixed-hours exchange operators are paying attention.
Selig Gets a Public Platform Hours After Trump's Remarks
Today from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time, the inaugural meeting of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Innovation Advisory Committee will take place, with a live stream available on CFTC.gov. The agenda includes discussions on cryptoassets, artificial intelligence and prediction markets, and the commission's recent actions in these areas. The committee was established in January 2026 to replace the Technology Advisory Committee and includes representatives from companies such as Coinbase, Ripple, and Gemini, among others.
The issue of Hyperliquid is not included on the published agenda. The written comment period is open until August 27.
Traders will be watching to see if Selig voices anything resembling Trump's description. An ambiguous hint would sustain the speculative nature of the rally. Any specific information about registration or regulatory requirements would change the price that $HYPE is pricing in.
