Trump Media announced plans to overhaul its digital asset treasury strategy following a second-quarter net loss of $238 million, driven in part by $190.4 million in unrealized losses on cryptocurrencies and securities. The new framework aims to maintain long-term crypto exposure while managing volatility and improving balance sheet efficiency. The company, behind Truth Social and linked to former President Donald Trump, reported holding 9,477.16 Bitcoin as of June 30, with additional amounts pledged as collateral. In July, it sold $159.6 million in Bitcoin-related securities to directly purchase more Bitcoin, boosting its total holdings to approximately 14,139 BTC by month's end. Trump Media also highlighted risks associated with its Bitcoin yield-generating strategies, including counterparty credit risk and potential asset loss, noting that some arrangements with unrated third parties could lead to unrecoverable losses in a downturn. The company plans to reallocate more resources toward its media businesses as part of a broader capital strategy shift.

Its Q2 filing shows the company is already using options to manage Bitcoin volatility and generate premium income, while deploying some BTC through lending and other yield-generating arrangements.

The company also said it plans to direct more resources toward Truth Social, Truth+ and other parts of its media business as part of a broader shift in how it allocates capital.

Trump Media boosts Bitcoin holdings after Q2

Trump Media’s Bitcoin holdings were little changed during the second quarter before the company stepped up its direct Bitcoin exposure in July.

As of June 30, Trump Media held 9,477.16 Bitcoin, down from 9,542.16 BTC at the end of the previous quarter.

By July 31, Trump Media reported holding approximately 14,139 BTC, including pledged Bitcoin, worth about $890.5 million at the time.

Trump Media flags risks from Bitcoin yield strategy

Trump Media also warned that its efforts to earn additional income from its Bitcoin carry counterparty credit risk and the potential loss of its assets.

The company said it has deployed a portion of its Bitcoin holdings to third parties through lending, placement and other yield-generating arrangements, which it described as relatively new strategies.

Some of those counterparties may not be rated by major credit rating agencies and could default during market downturns, liquidity crises or other financial distress.

If an arrangement is unsecured, the company said it may be unable to recover its Bitcoin if a counterparty becomes insolvent. Trump Media is also limited in its ability to sell or pledge Bitcoin while it is deployed, while counterparties may use those assets at their discretion.

Opinion: Altcoins Might Still Have a Chance, but VC-Backed Coins Are Truly Hopeless

Author: Haotian. Through deep discussions with experienced on-chain investors, a consensus has emerged on survival strategies for the current market cycle: the focus has decisively shifted from "narratives and speculation" to "cash flow and tangible validation." Several key principles are outlined: 1) Prioritize assets with genuine value capture. In a bear market, sustainable protocol fees and a proven record of using them for token buybacks, burns, or dividends are essential. Examples include launchpad tokens like $UNI, $PUMP, $PONS, and the notable buyback token $HYPE. 2) Choose only projects with proven Product-Market Fit (PMF) and a complete operational loop. The next cycle's narratives, likely around "real-world asset tokenization" and the "Agentic Economy," will favor practical validation over technical roadmaps. Projects must demonstrate real users, transaction volume, and revenue. Examples such as $ONDO, $VVV, and $VIRTUAL will be evaluated on metrics like Assets Under Management (AUM) and fee generation. 3) Opt for assets with strong, organically developed "consensus." True consensus is market-driven and survives multiple cycles, not manufactured through marketing. Examples include enduring meme coins like $DOGE, $PEPE, $PEOPLE, or established sector leaders like $ZEC and $TAO, which benefit from resilient communities and sustained liquidity. 4) Avoid purely venture-capital (VC)-backed tokens. Unlike general altcoins which may cycle back, VC coins are seen as particularly problematic. Their typical high Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV), low circulating supply, and continuous large unlock schedules often lead to post-unlock sell pressure, especially if the project lacks inherent value capture. This dynamic is a key factor in the current cycle's restrained rallies and deep corrections, discouraging retail participation. *Note: This is a summary of personal discussions. Mentioned tokens are examples only, not investment advice.*

Wall Street Morning Report: The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell nearly 3%, and concerns over Nvidia's "revolving financing" sparked a tech stock pullback, with optical communications and chip stocks declining sharply. U.S. stocks retreated from record highs on Monday amid geopolitical tensions and AI financing doubts. The Dow fell 0.11%, the Nasdaq 0.32%, and the S&P 500 was nearly flat. The sell-off centered on Nvidia, which fell 2.86% on reports it is collaborating with major financial institutions to mobilize over $500 billion in third-party capital for AI infrastructure.
