Окружной суд Виктории приговорил 39-летнего австралийца Джатиндера Сингха (Jatinder Singh) к трем годам тюрьмы за растрату корпоративных средств биржи Crypto.com. Об этом сообщают местные СМИ.

Подоплека дела

Согласно судебным материалам, в мае 2021 года Сингх попытался внести на платформу Crypto.com 100 австралийских долларов ($65), используя банковский счет своей девушки Теваманогари Манивелы.

Биржа отклонила депозит из-за несоответствия данных. При этом сотрудница из Болгарии ошибочно ввела номер банковского счета Манивелы в поле для указания суммы возврата в таблице Excel. После этого Crypto.com отправила женщине 10,47 млн австралийских долларов (около $6,9 млн).

Обнаружив ошибку, Сингх потребовал перевести средства на совместный счет пары. Полученные деньги сожители потратили на покупку четырех домов, автомобилей, произведений искусства и брендовые вещи. Также пара сделала подарок другу в виде 1 млн австралийских долларов.

Компания обнаружила ошибку в ходе внутреннего аудита семь месяцев спустя. Как биржа, так и банк неоднократно обращались к паре с целью возврата средств.

Судебное разбирательство

Манивел была арестована в марте 2022 года при попытке вылететь в Малайзию. Сингха задержали позднее в том же месяце. Мужчина заявил, что получил средства после выигрыша в «онлайн-лотерею».

Последнее заседание состоялось 2 августа 2024 года. Прокурор Кэмпбелл Томсон потребовал для Сингха тюремного заключения, отметив, что мужчина должен понести ответственность.

Адвокат последнего, в свою очередь, указал, что Сингх не осознавал всю серьезность ситуации. Позднее он признал себя виновным в краже 6,07 млн австралийских долларов.

Судья приговорила его к трем годам лишения свободы. При этом мужчине засчитают срок предварительного заключения в 361 день.

Манивел, которая вывела за границу еще около 4 млн австралийских долларов, была приговорена к семи месяцам тюрьмы в сентябре 2023 года. Также ей предстоит пройти 18 месяцев исправительных работ, которые еще не истекли.

Согласно материалам дела, Crypto.com обратилась в суд с требованием заморозить украденные средства. Сколько из этой суммы удалось вернуть, на момент написания неизвестно.
