Bank of America Maintains Buy Rating, Sets Target Price at $810
Bank of America Securities reiterated its "Buy" rating and maintained an $810 price target for Meta following the company's settlement. Meta's stock was trading around $578 at the time. Wall Street price targets range from $580 to $1,000, with the overall consensus still strongly favoring a buy rating.
Analyst Justin Post believes the settlement reduces uncertainty from potential massive jury verdicts. With regulatory pressure easing, the stock has an opportunity to reflect the catalysts from its artificial intelligence business, rather than having its valuation persistently weighed down by litigation risks.
Multiple AI Catalysts Possible Over Next Six Months
Bank of America anticipates that Meta may announce a personal AI product, a top-tier large language model, AI model licensing deals, AI computing partnerships, and an ad monetization platform for messaging apps over the next six months. The market currently holds a somewhat negative view towards Meta's substantial AI investments and the company's ability to create an appealing personal AI product. Therefore, any verifiable product progress could create a positive divergence from expectations.
Meta's financial foundation remains robust, with revenue growing 28% and gross margins reaching 82%. The advertising business is the core cash flow generator. AI can both enhance ad recommendation and conversion efficiency and increase user engagement. If AI investments can further improve advertising returns, the pressure from capital expenditures will be more easily accepted by the market.
High Capital Expenditure Remains the Biggest Debate
The risk lies in the massive scale of AI infrastructure investment, while the realization of returns takes time. If new models, personal AI, or messaging ad monetization fall short of expectations, free cash flow and valuation could face pressure. Simultaneously, competitors are also accelerating investments in large models and AI assistants, meaning Meta cannot solely rely on the traffic from its existing social platforms.
From a price perspective, the area around $578 still has significant room to reach Bank of America's $810 target. However, achieving this upside requires two conditions: continued easing of regulatory risks and AI products beginning to generate quantifiable revenue. If only capital expenditure increases without corresponding revenue validation in the future, the logic behind the target price would weaken. Valuation recovery is likely to persist only if advertising growth and AI commercialization materialize simultaneously.
