Bitcoin Mining Takes New Turn With Tether’s Open-Source Software
Tether, the company behind the USDT stablecoin, has released MiningOS (MOS), a fully open-source Bitcoin mining operating system under the Apache 2.0 license. The modular, self-hosted platform allows miners to manage, monitor operations—from single rigs to large-scale sites—without relying on paid proprietary software. It includes device management, energy controls, and telemetry, and uses Holepunch peer-to-peer networking to reduce central server dependency and avoid vendor lock-in. Aimed particularly at small operators facing high costs and complexity, MOS offers a free, extensible toolkit to simplify and scale mining operations. Tether positions the release as part of its broader support for open Bitcoin infrastructure.
