Bitcoin advocacy group to join US State Department’s ‘digital freedom’ program
The US State Department has launched the Freedom Tech Excellence Program (FTEP) to advance diplomatic efforts on digital freedom and freedom of expression. The Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) has been named a founding partner in the program, alongside companies like Palantir Technologies and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation. Through FTEP, BPI employees will work with State Department experts to defend digital freedoms globally, focusing on issues such as online freedom of expression, privacy-enhancing technologies, countering digital surveillance, and responsible AI governance. Since its founding in 2021, the BPI, a non-partisan research and advocacy group, has supported efforts to codify former President Donald Trump's executive order for a strategic crypto reserve into law, though Congress had not passed related legislation as of the report.
