Ethereum Foundation Faces Fresh Wave of Researcher Exits
Two prominent Ethereum Foundation researchers, Carl Beek and Julian Ma, have resigned, bringing the total number of high-profile departures at the organization to eight in recent months. Beek, who contributed to developing the Beacon Chain for Ethereum's proof-of-stake transition, and Ma, who worked on censorship resistance and cross-layer bridges, announced their exits via social media. Ma stated the Foundation is "fantastic" but no longer aligned with his focus on product growth, while Beek plans to spend time with his family.
This wave of departures follows significant leadership and protocol restructuring announced by co-founder Vitalik Buterin last year, aimed at recruiting new talent to enhance the blockchain's speed and throughput. Earlier in the month, Protocol Cluster leaders Barnabé Monnot and Tim Beiko also left, with Alex Stokes taking a sabbatical. Key researcher Josh Stark and contributor Trent Van Epps departed in April, and co-executive director Tomasz Stanczak resigned in February.
