$XRP price rose to near $1.55 on Friday as the cryptocurrency market cheered the Senate Banking Committee’s passage of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act.

Other crypto assets also notched gains, with Hyperlquid, Flare, and XDC Network leading the top 100 coins by market cap.

Bitcoin also reclaimed the $80,000 level, with intraday highs coming as major altcoins held key levels.

CLARITY Act approval buoys crypto

The US Senate Banking Committee approved the bipartisan Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in a 15-9 vote, marking a significant step toward comprehensive crypto market structure legislation.

The measure will now move to a procedural merger with a similar bill in the Senate Agriculture Committee, advancing the legislative pathway for federal regulation of digital assets.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott engineered a last-minute maneuver to accept amendments he had previously rejected, winning over two Democratic senators after several hours of partisan debate.

While the legislation addresses a range of market structure issues, lawmakers and stakeholders acknowledged outstanding questions.

These include provisions related to law enforcement access and ethics safeguards.

Market participants nonetheless received the vote as a positive signal, interpreting it as the first major bipartisan movement on crypto market structure in months and a reduction of regulatory uncertainty ahead of a full Senate consideration.

Thorchain halts trading after $10 million cross-chain exploit, RUNE token drops 12%

Decentralized cross-chain liquidity protocol THORChain was exploited for roughly $10.8 million on Friday, with the attack affecting deployments across four different blockchains.

In response, the protocol paused all trading and signing operations, according to on-chain investigator ZachXBT on Telegram.

The attacker's wallets, identified across Bitcoin, Ethereum and BSC, currently hold 3,443 ETH worth $7.77 million, 36.85 BTC worth $2.97 million, and 96.6 BNB worth $66,000, per Arkham Intelligence.

Thorchain's Mimir governance module flipped trading halt and signing halt parameters to active, with a node pause running for approximately 12 hours and 42 minutes from block 26190429.

RUNE, the protocol's native token, dropped 12% on the news.

Thorchain operates as a decentralized cross-chain liquidity network, letting users swap native assets across different blockchains without wrapping or bridging through a centralized intermediary.

Crypto exploits have remained a persistent feature of the industry. In April alone, decentralized perpetual exchange Drift Protocol and liquid restaking protocol KelpDAO together accounted for over $600 million in losses.

Cross-chain bridges and liquidity protocols have historically been the most exploited category in DeFi, with over $2.8 billion in cumulative bridge-related theft since 2021 per Chainalysis.

The protocol has not yet published a post-mortem identifying the specific attack vector.

Kucuker’s chart analysis highlights a large rounded formation, suggesting Cardano is building a long-term base after years of consolidation and decline.

The chart indicates $ADA may be preparing for a breakout above the key resistance area around $1. If it reclaims that level, the next major target sits near $4.21.

From Cardano’s current price of $0.2678, a rally to $4 would represent an increase of nearly 1,394%. Such a move would also push $ADA beyond its previous all-time high of around $3.10, reached in September 2021.

Nasdaq CME Cryptocurrency Index Futures on June 8, expanding its suite of regulated digital asset derivatives products as institutional demand for diversified crypto exposure continues to grow. According to the company's announcement, the contracts are currently awaiting regulatory review. The exchange operator said the contracts are designed to provide investors with a more capital-efficient way to gain exposure to leading digital assets through a single financially settled instrument. At expiration, the contracts will settle against the Nasdaq CME Cryptocurrency Settlement Price Index, which tracks the performance of the most actively traded cryptocurrencies in the market. As of May 14, the index includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Cardano, Chainlink, and Stellar. CME expands institutional crypto offerings The launch marks another step in CME's broader expansion into cryptocurrency derivatives as traditional financial firms continue building products tied to digital assets. CME already operates futures markets for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and several micro-sized crypto contracts that have become widely used by institutional traders for hedging and portfolio management.
