He believes the current job market remains stable and there are "credible reasons" to think inflation can continue to decline without further tightening of policy. However, Waller warned that relying solely on market expectations for inflation to fall is not enough to justify the Fed staying on hold. If the Fed waits to act until market confidence fades, it may have to raise rates more aggressively to catch up with inflation. "We cannot tolerate ignoring inflation until it completely disappears," he said.
