Bitcoin has continued to struggle, with the asset recently dropping below the $80,000 support level it had consolidated around for at least 12 days.

Structural signals are building to support a bullish outlook on the chart, but liquidation risk in the perpetual market is throwing up meaningful short-term headwinds that traders cannot dismiss.

Long-term holders, the group of investors known to hold Bitcoin [BTC] for at least 155 days without selling, could prove central to Bitcoin’s performance from this point.

The Bitcoin HODL Bank, which measures the unrealized profit level among Bitcoin holders, has reached a 14-month high at the time of writing. This means holders are increasingly locked into their positions and selling minimally.

That is not all. Historically, surges to this level have reflected strong bullish conviction among investors, and the indicator formed at comparable readings before both the mid-2020 and mid-2023 rallies that preceded significant price highs.

The confirmation for Bitcoin would come from the asset clearing the $82,500 resistance level it has struggled to breach for weeks. Regardless of that, structurally, Bitcoin appears primed for a rally.

Despite the bullish structural conditions from long-term holders, liquidation data reveals that taking a long position on Bitcoin in the perpetual market currently carries significant risk.

Traders who went long on Bitcoin over the past 24 hours recorded $184 million in forcefully closed positions, compared to just $4.17 million on the short side.

What this implies is that there is currently more incentive for traders to open short positions on Bitcoin, which could impact the asset and push it even lower from its present level.

That is not all. Data shows there is an ongoing sell-off across the top five cryptocurrency exchanges by volume, including

Solana (SOL) dropped 5% to $86.98 and is now down 7% over the past seven days. XRP slid 4.3% to $1.41. Ether (ETH) lost 3.3% to $2,189, with its weekly decline widening to 5.3%, the worst among the majors. BNB held up better, down 3.9% on the day but still up 1.1% over the past seven days. Dogecoin slipped 4.2% to $0.1095.

CoinGlass data showed $581 million in total liquidations over 24 hours with $552 million of that wiped from long positions and just $28 million from shorts. BTC liquidations led at $189 million, followed by ETH at $151 million. The largest single liquidation order was a $21.59 million BTCUSDT position on Bitget.

A 95% long-skew on a $581 million flush is what happens when leverage has been built up on one side of the trade and the move catches everyone the same way.

The drop came as the S&P 500 fell 1.2% in its worst session since March, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropping 4% after weeks of leading the equity rally. U.S. 10-year Treasury yields topped 4.5%, Japan's 30-year debt hit 4% for the first time, and U.K. long-bond rates touched a 28-year high. The dollar extended its weekly gain. Brent crude settled above $105.

The throughline is inflation.

Back-to-back hot CPI and PPI prints earlier in the week, combined with elevated oil prices tied to the ongoing Iran conflict and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, have pushed traders to bet the Federal Reserve will hike rather than cut.

Canaccord Wealth UK has partnered with Bitwise Asset Management to offer Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded products to high-net-worth clients. The new service limits crypto exposure to 5% of client portfolios and keeps allocations inside a managed wealth structure.

Bradley Duke, Bitwise’s Head of Europe, disclosed the partnership in an X post. He said the arrangement gives selected Canaccord clients access to crypto products linked to the two largest digital assets.Through the deal, Canaccord becomes one of the first major UK wealth managers to add managed crypto exposure for affluent investors. This service targets high-net-worth clients, not the wider retail market.

The wealth manager oversees about $70 billion in assets, according to the provided details. A 5% allocation cap means Bitcoin and Ethereum would remain a limited part of client portfolios.

Under the partnership, Bitwise would provide ETP-based exposure to both assets. Such products allow clients to access crypto through a familiar investment structure rather than direct token ownership.

This approach keeps the rollout controlled. It also gives advisers a way to include digital assets without making crypto a dominant position in the portfolio.

Bitwise’s products are being used in an exchange-traded product wrapper. That structure could support crypto exposure within traditional investment channels used by wealth managers and professional advisers.
