Trump Does Not Rule Out Meeting with Iran's Supreme Leader if Agreement is Reached

06/04 22:10

On June 5, local time June 4, U.S. President Trump stated that if the U.S. and Iran ultimately reach an agreement, he does not rule out the possibility of meeting with Iran's newly appointed Supreme Leader. He reiterated that the U.S. will never allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons and claimed that previous U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities had 'completely destroyed' the relevant sites. Trump also mentioned that the U.S. had considered sending troops to Iran to transport enriched uranium from the nuclear facility but ultimately abandoned the plan to avoid U.S. forces becoming embroiled in a prolonged ground operation and suffering casualties. He noted that such an operation would require one to two weeks and involve significant heavy equipment and airlift capabilities, thus posing a high risk.
