WEMIX says attacker moved about $724,000 after contract breach.Layer-1 blockchain network $WEMIX said an attacker moved about 724,000 in $USDC.e tokens after compromising ownership of a contract linked to its $WEMIX$ stablecoin and issuing tokens without authorization.

The abnormal transactions occurred on Sunday at 9:17 UTC, according to a preliminary incident update from $WEMIX. The attacker issued about 5.23 million $WEMIX$, which was converted into 30,736 $WEMIX and 724,198.27 $USDC.e. The $USDC.e was then bridged to Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain before being exchanged for assets including Ether and Tether’s USDT and distributed across multiple addresses.

$WEMIX said some of the funds were deposited into centralized exchanges. The company identified the attacker’s wallets and requested asset freezes and assistance from exchanges and stablecoin issuers, adding that some exchanges had already frozen addresses linked to the incident.

Hashdex plans to put some of the crypto held by its Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF (NCIQ) to work through staking. The sponsor takes the first slice of net income, while common shareholders begin sharing in the rewards after an annual threshold is cleared.

The framework is prospective. A July 23 Form 8-K named Coinbase Cloud as the initial provider and said staking was expected to begin promptly, subject to operational readiness.

Under the July 23 prospectus supplement, a staking provider first retains its portion of gross rewards. Hashdex then receives all remaining net staking income up to a dollar threshold equal to 0.25% of common-share net asset value through one Sponsor Share, a separate unlisted class held exclusively by Hashdex.  Income above that threshold is split 40% to Hashdex and 60% to the trust for holders of publicly traded NCIQ common shares.

The threshold is measured over each fiscal year and prorated for a partial year. If net staking income stays at or below it, none is allocated to the trust for common shareholders’ benefit.

For illustration, if net staking income reached 1% of common-share NAV after provider fees over a full year, the trust would receive 0.45% for common shareholders. Hashdex would collect the remaining 0.55%, comprising the first 0.25% and 40% of the next 0.75 percentage point. The figures are illustrative rather than a forecast or realized return.
The Sponsor Share return is separate from NCIQ’s 0.25% annual management fee and is not netted against it.

Provider deductions vary by asset.  Hashdex’s NCIQ product page lists an 8% fee on gross ether staking rewards, an 8% validator commission for Solana, and a 5% validator commission for Cardano.

As of July 26, Ethereum represented 11.75% of NCIQ’s holdings, Solana 3.17%, and Cardano 0.49%, a combined 15.41%. That is not the amount staked. Hashdex

The Engendro Velho farm, located in Paraná, Brazil, received a loan of nearly $20K using a herd of 10 cows as collateral, using decentralized technology to digitize the information of each cow.

The farmer received the Financial Rural Product Note (CPR-F) valued at nearly $100K from BMP, a direct credit society, and the deliverables (each cow) were assigned to Target FIDC, a fintech company that registered the transaction using each animal’s data.

While this kind of transaction is not new, the tokenization and monitoring of the cows enables farmers to get a better deal, as creditors can examine the status of the herd at any time, lowering the risks associated with such a loan.

Humberto Brenner, a director at Target FIDC, stressed that this element can lead to a cow reaching up to 2.5 times the price it would have in similar non-monitored agreements. “Monitoring eliminates that uncertainty,” he declared.

Numbers issued by the Central Bank of El Salvador revealed that during the first half of 2026, only $35.4 million of the total volume of external remittances was sent to the country using digital currency channels. The figure represents less than 1% of all funds sent to the country in 2026, which reached over $5 billion.

In comparison, cash remittances, which are handed over personally when senders travel from another country to El Salvador to visit their relatives, rose to 3.8%. Even so, crypto remittance numbers are significantly higher than those reached during H1 2025, when these registered $25.4 million in volumes, a rise of 39.1%.

Total remittances for the period also rose from $4.84 billion to 5.06 billion, a rise of 219.2 million (4.5%). Remittance companies and banks constitute the preferred channels for Salvadorans to send money home, intermediating over 84% of the volume received from abroad.

Quantum computing is a risk factor for every encrypted system on the planet, including major banks. But crypto, due to the way it works, may be the technology that gets tested first.

"Cryptocurrencies are the canary in the coal mine," Eddy Zervigon, CEO of Quantum Xchange, said in an interview with CoinDesk. Zervigon's firm builds infrastructure to shield networks, including financial ones, from quantum-enabled attacks, and he's blunt about where the first casualty is likely to show up.

"That's the first place of attack because of the decentralized nature," Zervigon said. "Once you see it happening there, then you know that someone somewhere has a cryptographically relevant quantum computer."

A cryptographically relevant quantum computer, capable of breaking the elliptic-curve cryptography underpinning the Bitcoin blockchain's signatures, along with the encryption securing bank rails, doesn't exist yet. The consensus estimate for when it will is compressing, not stretching.

"The folks spending billions of dollars, like Microsoft, IBM, and others developing quantum computers, generally believe there will be a commercially relevant, cryptographically relevant quantum computer in the 2029 timeframe," Zervigon said. "That's not me making stuff up. That's based on what people like Arvind Krishna at IBM have said."

That estimate is consistent with recent hardware developments. Earlier this year, Google researchers revealed that breaking the elliptic-curve cryptography safeguarding top cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ether would require fewer than 500,000 physical qubits, a 20-fold decline from previous estimates. That prompted several observers, including Google, to pull forward the so-called Q-Day deadline to 2029.
