Can Bitcoin Miners Become Part Of The Payment Stack?Bitcoin began as peer-to-peer electronic cash, but the market gave it a different job. Over the past decade, Bitcoin has become crypto’s benchmark investment asset: something to accumulate, custody, borrow against, and measure against. Stablecoins, meanwhile, became the industry’s practical payment rail.

That split made sense. Bitcoin’s volatility, confirmation times, and tax complexity made it awkward for everyday spending, while stablecoins offered the thing merchants and users actually needed: a familiar unit of account that could move quickly across digital rails. Bitcoin became the asset people did not want to spend. Stablecoins became the money they could.

The gap is becoming more visible as stablecoins move deeper into mainstream payment infrastructure. Visa said its stablecoin settlement pilot now supports nine blockchains and had reached a $7 billion annualized settlement run rate as of March 2026. That does not mean stablecoins have solved every payments problem, but it does show which part of crypto is being absorbed most quickly into commercial finance.

Bitcoin is now facing the opposite question. It does not need to prove that it can be held. It needs to prove that it can move in ways that create useful economic activity. More specifically, it raises a question for the companies that secure the network: can miners evolve from passive validators into active participants in Bitcoin’s payment economy?

Garden Finance disables app as Blockaid reports $450,000 exploit
Cross-chain bridging and atomic swap protocol Garden Finance temporarily took its app offline after blockchain security firm Blockaid reported an exploit targeting the protocol’s hash time-locked contracts (HTLC) across four blockchain networks.

On Sunday, Blockaid said an attacker drained about $450,000 in USDT from Garden’s HTLC contracts on Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and BNB Smart Chain. HTLCs are time-bound escrow contracts that Garden uses to facilitate atomic swaps between Bitcoin and assets on other networks.

Blockaid described the exploit as ongoing when it published its alert but did not disclose the suspected vulnerability or say whether the incident affected user funds. Blockaid’s alert included addresses associated with the attacker and the affected contracts.

Garden said separately that it had detected “unusual activity” and was conducting a full investigation while its app remained temporarily offline.

Garden Finance and Blockaid acknowledged Cointelegraph’s request for comments.

The incident follows an October 2025 breach in which an attacker stole about $11.4 million after compromising the operating environment of one of Garden’s solvers. Garden said that breach did not affect its protocol contracts or put user funds at risk.

Odds of rates remaining the same have fallen to 63.7% on the CME Fed watch tool, which now predicts a 36.3% chance of an increase.

Ethereum Cycle Chart Points to $10,000 as Long-Term Support Holds

Ethereum may be entering the accumulation stage of another four-year market cycle, according to a long-term chart shared by analyst Crypto Patel. The setup projects a possible advance toward $10,000 and higher during 2026 or 2027, although $ETH must first defend support and clear several major resistance levels.

The chart compares Ethereum’s current structure with the cycles that produced major peaks in 2017 and 2021. Both periods included a strong rally, a prolonged correction and an accumulation phase before the next expansion began.

$ETH is trading near $1,860, above the chart’s main support area around $1,000 to $1,350. Holding that zone would preserve the analyst’s cycle comparison and allow Ethereum to continue building a possible long-term base.

The first major resistance sits near $3,945. A sustained move above that level would strengthen the recovery and place the previous record high back in focus. $ETH would then need to establish support above its former peak before the projected expansion becomes more credible.

Crypto Patel’s chart places $10,000 as an important long-term level, followed by a broader potential peak between roughly $16,000 and $22,500. The projected gain is based on Ethereum repeating earlier cycle behavior, not on a confirmed breakout.

However, historical cycles do not guarantee the same outcome. A decisive breakdown below $1,000 would weaken the bullish structure and invalidate the chart’s main accumulation thesis.
