Federal Police in Brazil has taken action against a high-profile drug trafficking ring that used cryptocurrency to launder the funds obtained for its narcotics export activity to Europe.

On Thursday, the Brazilian federal Police announced the results of Operation Commodity, which terminated the activities of a group that used the port of Rio de Janeiro to smuggle cocaine hidden in coffee, cement, and mortar shipments that were mainly sent to Europe, using a logistics network spanning South America, Europe, and Asia.

Investigations hint at over 6.5 tons of cocaine processed by the group since 2021 to various European countries, including France, Belgium, Germany, Slovenia, and Spain.

During the operation, which encompassed actions in São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina, and Espírito Santo, 13 preventive arrests and 44 search-and-seizures were executed, with courts ordering the seizure of assets and freezing of property up to 1 billion reais (nearly $196 million). A shootout erupted in one of these locations, with a suspect dying of gunshot wounds as he resisted.

After that, Shiba Inu ($SHIB) is the 2nd top crypto gainer, with its 24-hour volume hitting $721,316,311. Additionally, $SHIB/$USDT is trading at $0.000005167, expressing a 24.85% rise over the past seven days.

Apart from that, Venice Token ($VVV) is another notable performer on the list. Specifically, its 24-hour volume stands at $32,936,369. Along with that, the current price of $VVV/$USDT is $14.09, while its weekly performance change is 21.03%. Additionally, Ondo comes next, with $ONDO/$USDT trading at $0.3844. It has gained 10.09% over the week, whereas its 24-hour volume sits at $78,691,648.

As per coinmarketcap data, Pump.fun ($PUMP) is now priced at $0.001809. At the same time, it displays a 9.29% weekly gain, while its 24-hour volume stands at $35,517,838. Subsequently, Uniswap ($UNI) has surged by 9.16%. Currently, $UNI/$USDT is trading at $8.85, and the 24-hour volume has reached $139,506,782. After that, Monero’s $XMR/$USDT is trading at $362.61, highlighting an 8.16% surge over the week.

POSCO International, South Korea's largest trading company, has begun tokenizing trade receivables on blockchain in a test that could speed up commercial payments between its global subsidiaries.

The company, which generated $22.2 billion in revenue last year from businesses spanning steel, energy and battery materials, is working with LG CNS, the technology arm of LG Group, to issue, transfer and settle receivables on layer-1 blockchain Injective INJ$4.9980, the firms told CoinDesk in a press briefing.

The pilot is using receivables generated by real trade between POSCO's overseas operations and their counterparties rather than simulated transactions.

The Engendro Velho farm, located in Paraná, Brazil, received a loan of nearly $20K using a herd of 10 cows as collateral, using decentralized technology to digitize the information of each cow.

The farmer received the Financial Rural Product Note (CPR-F) valued at nearly $100K from BMP, a direct credit society, and the deliverables (each cow) were assigned to Target FIDC, a fintech company that registered the transaction using each animal’s data.

While this kind of transaction is not new, the tokenization and monitoring of the cows enables farmers to get a better deal, as creditors can examine the status of the herd at any time, lowering the risks associated with such a loan.

Humberto Brenner, a director at Target FIDC, stressed that this element can lead to a cow reaching up to 2.5 times the price it would have in similar non-monitored agreements.
