The European Central Bank is taking another concrete step toward launching the Digital Euro.
ECB Executive Board member Piero Cipollone confirmed that the selection of payment service providers (PSPs) for the Digital Euro pilot will begin in Q1 2026, ahead of a 12-month testing phase planned for the second half of 2027.
The pilot will be limited in scope, involving a small group of EU-licensed PSPs, selected merchants, and Eurosystem staff. For participating providers, this isn’t just a test—it’s an early-mover advantage.
Why this pilot matters
PSPs joining the program will gain hands-on experience with:
Digital Euro onboarding and settlement flows
Liquidity and operational management
Early insight into future infrastructure, compliance, and staffing costs
This visibility allows firms to plan capital allocation more accurately before any broader rollout.
Protecting Europe’s payment ecosystem
Beyond the technical rollout, the Digital Euro is also a strategic move.
Cipollone highlighted that European banks risk losing their central role in payments—not only to stablecoins, but also to private payment solutions dominated by non-European networks like Visa and Mastercard.
The Digital Euro is designed to support and protect domestic payment schemes such as Italy’s Bancomat and Spain’s Bizum, while reducing Europe’s dependence on international card infrastructure.
To stay competitive, the ECB plans to cap Digital Euro merchant fees below those charged by global card networks, but above domestic payment schemes, striking a balance between adoption and sustainability.

Крупнейшая в мире площадка для торговли деривативами сообщила, что непрерывная торговля начнется в пятницу, 29 мая, в 16:00 по центральному времени на своей платформе CME Globex.

В отличие от офшорных площадок, криптовалютные контракты CME работают в рамках нормативно-правовой базы США, предлагая стандартизированные расчеты и отчетность.

According to the reports, the files contain correspondence suggesting Epstein discussed arranging a meeting with Gensler regarding cryptocurrency topics. Emails from 2018 indicate Epstein told former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers that Gensler had arrived early for crypto-related discussions, according to the documents. Summers reportedly responded that he knew Gensler and considered him intelligent.
No documents released to date have established a direct connection between Epstein and any specific cryptocurrency decision or project, according to available reports. However, records suggest Epstein invested millions in early cryptocurrency ventures, including approximately $3 million in Coinbase in 2014, reports stated.
