Hyperliquid’s native token, HYPE, has officially entered a net deflationary state—a milestone that could reshape how the protocol’s economy works. On March 13, 2026, the HyperCore buyback mechanism repurchased 49,323 HYPE at an average price of $37.12. On the same day, only 26,846 tokens were issued as staking and validator rewards. This means a net 22,477 tokens were permanently removed from circulation.
This deflationary shift comes from Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 framework, which ties protocol revenue directly to token scarcity. Unlike traditional Layer-1 networks like Solana, which issue millions of new tokens each year to maintain network security, Hyperliquid uses trading fees to reduce supply faster than new tokens are created. If this trend continues, an estimated 8.09 million HYPE tokens could leave circulation over the next year.
What This Means for the Market
Analysts see this as creating a potential “supply shock” as the network grows. If trading volumes continue to rise with HIP-3 adoption, the buyback cycle could accelerate, shrinking supply even more.
