The Ethereum Foundation has released a new document defining the core principles and mission of the Ethereum ecosystem. Titled “The Ethereum Foundation’s Mission Statement,” the document serves as a guide outlining the foundation’s role, decision-making principles, and the future direction of Ethereum.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated in a social media post that the document in question defends Ethereum’s goal of being a “shelter technology,” meaning a technology that protects users’ technological sovereignty. According to Buterin, Ethereum is positioned as an infrastructure that enables collaboration without coercive authorities, is resistant to censorship, and allows individuals to have control over their digital assets.

The published text specifically states that the Ethereum Foundation is not the “parent or ultimate authority” of Ethereum. It describes its role as a “custodian” rather than a manager of the ecosystem. Within this approach, the foundation aims to contribute to the growth of the open-source community rather than controlling the network’s development alone.

The document highlights ETH’s core principles as decentralization, privacy, security, and open-source development. The foundation states that Ethereum’s continued existence as a censorship-resistant, user-sovereignty-protecting, and secure infrastructure is the raison d’être of the ecosystem. It specifically adds that these features should not be sacrificed for short-term conveniences.

A Modest Win For Bitcoin
During the London morning, bitcoin held firm near the top of the day’s range while regional equity indices traded mixed and volatility in energy and FX markets remained elevated. European desks saw dip‐buying interest each time BTC approached the $71K handle, suggesting that buyers are willing to defend this area despite the macro noise.

Bitcoin’s resilience stands out as the Iran war has pushed oil sharply higher and raised the risk of a full‐blown energy shock, with some officials warning crude could even test the far higher levels of $200 a barrel if the Strait of Hormuz disruption worsens, as seen in a statement issued by Iran on Wednesday. This slight surge supports the idea that BTC has passed the first stress test of the Iran shock and its aftermath.

Historically, such spikes in energy and inflation expectations have been bad news for Bitcoin, as tighter financial conditions sap liquidity from speculative assets. Yet, BTC is now consolidating near the upper end of its recent range instead of revisiting the lows seen on earlier Middle East headlines. This doesn’t come as a surprise for traders closely following the leading cryptocurrency movement around the Iran geopolitical conflict. As reported on an article from yesterday, “Bitcoin tends to respond positively when macro conditions become more supportive of risk assets”.

Caution Continues To Be Wise
Despite this positive trend, traders should not (yet) claim victory. As reported yesterday by our sister website NewsBTC, Mike McGlone, Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Commodity Strategist, warned that bitcoin could still fall back toward and potentially below the $10,000 area. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce has signaled a more cautious approach to blockchain innovation, recommending that the agency pursue an innovation exemption to allow limited trading and experimentation with tokenized securities within the present regulatory framework.

On March 12, the SEC Investor Advisory Committee meeting was held, where Commissioner Peirce stated, “Commission staff is working on an innovation exemption to facilitate limited trading of certain tokenized securities—much narrower than the “blanket” exemption mentioned in the draft recommendation.”

Meanwhile, the SEC’s Investor Advisory Committee also warned against implementing a broad blanket innovation exemption for tokenized securities. The committee observed that such crypto assets are still subject to federal securities laws and should continue to be subject to existing regulatory restrictions, even as policymakers look for methods to encourage blockchain-based financial innovation.

According to a letter dated February 26, the IAC’s market structure subcommittee proposed that changes to existing SEC regulations might be achieved through a limited or narrow innovation exemption or through rule-by-rule amendments.

However, it highlighted that any such measures must go through the regular notice and public comment period. The panel also stated that its suggestions are based on broad principles, recognizing that the tokenization of equities is still in its early stages and requires extensive technological developments.
