Bitcoin long-term holder selling slows, signaling 'potentially constructive' trend: VanEck
VanEck’s latest report said the selling pressure among bitcoin miners remained steady despite a decline in profitability, and long-term holders reduced selling activities.

The report said this trend is a “potentially constructive signal” for the crypto market.

VanEck's Mid-March 2026 Bitcoin ChainCheck report shows that long-term holder selling slowed, with transfer volume declining month-over-month across every age cohort of the cryptocurrency. 

"Declining transfer activity among these cohorts typically signals reduced distribution pressure from experienced market participants," VenEck analysts wrote in the Thursday report, describing the development as "a potentially constructive signal."


Meanwhile, the selling pressure among bitcoin miners remained steady rather than accelerating despite tighter profitability during the past month. Total miner revenues declined 11% month-over-month, while bitcoin mining equities fell 7%.

"Despite this deterioration in economics, miners did not meaningfully increase selling pressure," the report said. "Miner outflows to exchanges rose only 1% in BTC terms, suggesting most operators are attempting to preserve their remaining reserves rather than aggressively liquidating holdings," the report added.

Aggregate miner balances, excluding wallets attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto, stood at approximately 684,000 BTC, down only 0.5% year-over-year. Over the same period, roughly 164,000 new BTC were mined.

The president and CEO of Strategy said Morgan Stanley’s upcoming bitcoin ETF could unlock as much as $160 billion in demand under a modest portfolio allocation scenario.

Phong Le, President and CEO of Strategy, the world’s first and largest Bitcoin treasury firm, said Morgan Stanley’s proposed bitcoin ETF could unlock as much as $160 billion in demand under a modest portfolio allocation scenario.

“Morgan Stanley Wealth Management oversees about $8 trillion in AUM and recommends 0–4% bitcoin allocation,” Le wrote on X. “A 2% allocation would represent $160 billion, about three times the size of IBIT. MSBT: Monster Bitcoin.”

In other words, Le is saying that even a modest 2% bitcoin allocation across Morgan Stanley’s $8 trillion wealth platform could drive about $160 billion into bitcoin, far exceeding the size of existing ETFs like BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust.

The comment landed as Morgan Stanley advanced plans for its own spot BTC ETF, revealing new details in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The fund would trade under the ticker MSBT, a symbol that Le cast as shorthand for the potential scale of institutional demand.

Morgan Stanley’s amended S-1 outlines a structure familiar to the growing class of spot BTC ETFs. The trust is set to list on NYSE Arca with a 10,000-share creation unit and an initial seed basket of 50,000 shares, expected to raise about $1 million. The bank also disclosed it purchased two shares earlier this month for audit purposes.

Key service providers mirror those used across the ETF ecosystem. BNY Mellon will act as cash custodian, administrator, and transfer agent, while Coinbase is set to serve as prime broker and custodian for the fund’s bitcoin.

The founder of Litecoin, Charlie Lee, has said he regrets his decision to sell Bitcoin when it was trading at $1,000 years ago. His remarks come as the price of Bitcoin has shown strength and stability despite the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict, while gold has dropped significantly over the last three weeks, raising concerns about whether the precious metal is losing its status as a safe haven during periods of uncertainty. 

Litecoin Founder Regrets Selling Bitcoin Early

In a recent interview, Lee noted that he sold a lot of Bitcoin when the price first reached $1,000. While the Litecoin founder did not mention the year, it is worth noting that BTC first reached this price in 2013.

He added that he bought the coins for $30 and had already received a return on his investment of more than 30x. Per his statement, holding Bitcoin for an extended period without selling was challenging because of the returns a trader could accrue, prompting them to take profits early. 

“People sell too early or sell all of it because it is essentially hard to HODL your coins. Because if it goes up by 10x, you are like this is an amazing return. If you don’t sell, you will not get a chance. That’s what people think,” Lee said.

Lee also acknowledged the entry of institutions in the crypto industry, saying that it has supported growth in recent years. Last year, the SEC approved a spot Litecoin ETF, and it has gained $6.4 million in net assets and nearly $10 million in cumulative net inflows since launch.

For example, Finbold’s AI prediction agent, which combines the outputs from Gemini 3 Flash, ChatGPT 5.2, and Grok 4.1, projects an average $BTC price of $72,565 on April 1, 2026, suggesting a modest 2.54% upside from the current price of $70,769.


However, when one compares each individual algorithm, the result obtains another dimension.

Namely, while OpenAI’s and xAI’s chatbots are bullish, predicting that the Bitcoin prices would go up 2.66% and 8.1%, respectively, their Google counterpart has a completely different idea.

That is, the analysis given by Gemini suggests traders ought to prepare for a somewhat lower price of $68,546, which implies a 3.14% downside.
