BitMine’s Ethereum holdings reach 5.85M ETH
BitMine held 5,847,611 ETH as of August 23, according to its latest weekly update, representing approximately 4.8% of Ethereum’s circulating supply, and puts the company 97% of the way towards its 5% target.


With the ETH price at $2,440, the tokens were worth about $14.3 billion. BitMine reported total holdings of $14.9 billion after including 210 Bitcoin, $308 million in cash and marketable securities, and stakes in Beast Industries and Eightco Holdings.

Its holding was valued at $11.4 billion a week earlier, but the $3.5 billion increase can’t be attributed to the ETH that was recently added.

The 30% rally that Ethereum saw in the past few days accounted for much of the change, and the value of BitMine’s cash outside investments also increased.

BitMine has staked 5.07 million ETH and estimates that it could see around $330 million in annual revenue at current prices from this. The move shows that most of the ETH it holds is not sitting idle but generating income.

Bitcoin Beach report remains one merchant’s experienceAccording to Atack’s account, restaurant staff said almost every customer now paid by card. A worker reportedly declined a tip in satoshis because she had forgotten how to use her Bitcoin application.

“It was the first Bitcoin payment there all month,” Atack reported. He described the encounter as anecdotal, meaning it cannot establish payment activity across El Zonte or El Salvador.

Another visitor responding to the discussion said she had recently paid with Bitcoin in the area. She also observed signs advertising Bitcoin acceptance, showing that payment infrastructure remains available at some businesses.

The accounts are not necessarily contradictory. Merchant activity can vary by location, customer base and season. No comprehensive August transaction data for El Zonte was publicly available to measure the reported decline.

Bitcoin rebounded from around $57,000 to a weekly close near $79,175, today up about 1.88%.

In the past 24 hours, $570.08 million in positions were liquidated, with shorts hit harder than longs.

Bitcoin futures traders have all but abandoned crypto as collateral. The share of Bitcoin open interest that is crypto-margined—positions backed by Bitcoin itself rather than a stablecoin—is now about 12% across all exchanges, according to Glassnode's long-run metric.

That's a long way from where it sat in 2019 and 2020, when crypto-margined contracts made up close to 100% of the market. For most of the last decade, if you opened a $BTC futures position, your margin was almost always denominated in $BTC.

A crypto-margined position is collateralized in the asset you're trading, so a price drop shrinks your buffer at the exact moment the trade is going against you—a feedback loop that can trigger a margin call just as the market is moving fastest. Stablecoin-margined positions, by contrast, sit in dollars, so the collateral keeps its value while the trade swings.

Traders have simply chosen the steadier float.
The move toward stablecoins mirrors how the broader derivatives market has matured. Coinbase opened U.K. derivatives trading through Hyperliquid with up to 50x leverage this month, Bitcoin ETFs drew $854 million over five days as rate-hike bets faded, and Strategy trimmed its own Bitcoin stack—all signs of institutional flow that tends to settle in dollars, not coins.

None of this cooled spot demand this week. Bitcoin rebounded from around $57,000 to a weekly close near $79,175, up about 1.88% today after months of low-volatility drift between $60,000
