Bitcoin and altcoins are experiencing a significant recovery amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict. Bitcoin has surpassed $75,000, and the effects of this rise are also being seen in Ethereum and other altcoins.

$ETH surged to $2,350, while other major altcoins saw daily gains of up to 10%. With a bullish sentiment prevailing in the market, cryptocurrency analytics company Santiment recently revealed the most popular altcoins in the crypto world.

According to Santiment, investors showed strong interest in altcoins such as Bitcoin ($BTC), Ethereum ($ETH), Solana ($SOL), Bittensor ($TAO), Fetch.ai ($FET), and Nexo ($NEXO).

Bitcoin led the trending cryptocurrencies in the last 24 hours, surprisingly followed by $ETH, $SOL, $TAO, $FET, and $NEXO.

According to social media data, the most popular cryptocurrencies driving market trends on social media were:

Bitcoin: Trending due to large-scale, institutional $BTC accumulation, as reported by MicroStrategy.

Ethereum: Trending due to institutional staking and spot ETF inflows linked to recent product launches and large company acquisitions. BlackRock’s launch of its $ETH staking ETF, increased ETF inflows, staking yields, large $ETH purchases by miners and firms, and the resulting price increase are fueling discussions.

Solana: Solana is trending due to high-profile NFT issuances, increased on-chain activity, new DeFi protocol launches, high yields compared to Ethereum, and lower fees.

Bittensor: Trending due to its revamped AI token narrative and price increase. Social media posts promote $TAO as an open-source and independent/enterprise AI infrastructure.

Bitcoin rally tests $75,000 level in massive short squeeze

Bitcoin rose 3.93% to $75,253 at the time of writing, and Ethereum gained 8.2% to $2,352.

The crypto market saw $609 million in total liquidations in the past 24 hours, including $485.6 million in short positions, Coinglass data showed.
Bitcoin (BTC) and other major cryptocurrencies extended their rally late Monday, with prices climbing alongside a wave of short liquidations and improving macro sentiment.

Bitcoin rose roughly 4% over the past 24 hours to reach $75,653 at around 10:00 p.m. ET Monday, before sliding back down to $74,300 hours later, according to The Block's price page. Ethereum rose 3.28% to $2,315, while XRP advanced 5% to $1.54.

The broader move was accompanied by roughly $609 million in total crypto liquidations in the past 24 hours, including $485.6 million in short positions, according to public data aggregated on Coinglass.

Zeus Research analyst Dominick John told The Block that massive short liquidations fueled a squeeze-driven extension higher. However, he remains skeptical that the move will spark a long-term rally.

"Squeeze-driven moves are typically short-lived without sustained real demand, likely fading from days to a couple of weeks," John said.

Market sentiment also showed signs of recovery. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index stood at 28 in "fear" territory late Monday, moving out of "extreme fear" after lingering in that zone over the past week.

David Schwartz, Ripple’s CTO Emeritus (A CTO Emeritus is a former CTO who has attained an honorary position in the company due to his contributions), has provided evidence that Ripple burning all its escrowed XRP tokens would have no positive impact on the asset’s price. 

Ripple has sold over 21 billion XRP tokens since it began its escrow release schedule in 2017, triggering criticisms from detractors and some proponents. However, Ripple’s CTO Emeritus suggests one of the proposed solutions, involving an outright burn, may not have any positive economic impact.

Key Points

After receiving 80 billion XRP tokens from the XRPL architects, Ripple locked up 55 billion tokens in escrow in 2017 and has sold 21.4 billion since then.

These sales, which often involve about 200 million XRP from escrow monthly, have raised concerns, leading to criticisms.

Some of these critics have argued that Ripple could burn all escrowed tokens to trigger a bump in XRP’s price.

Amid these suggestions, Ripple’s former CTO and CTO Emeritus David Schwartz has come up to debunk claims that such burns could positively impact XRP’s price.

He cited Stellar’s earlier burn of half its supply, exactly 55 billion tokens, in 2019 as evidence that such events would not trigger the expected price rally.
