The adjustment came after the previous 2,016 blocks were mined slower than the 10-minute target, with average block times around 12 minutes 36 seconds. The network automatically recalibrated difficulty downward.
In February, extreme weather in the U.S. temporarily shut down major mining facilities, causing a prior difficulty drop, which later rebounded about 15% as power returned.
Miners shifting to AI:
Several listed miners are reallocating capacity to AI and high-performance computing to secure more stable returns from electricity and data-center resources.
Crypto trader Ran Neuner even suggested AI has become Bitcoin mining’s biggest competitor, saying it has “forever changed the mining landscape.”
Miners such as Core Scientific, MARA Holdings, Hut 8, and Cipher Mining are adjusting operations, while less efficient rigs are being shut down.
Bitdeer liquidated 943 BTC in February and has zero BTC holdings as of March 21.
