One of the first named plaintiffs in a new lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase says he lost $650,000 — including retirement savings — to an alleged $328 million crypto Ponzi scheme the bank helped keep running.

A proposed class action filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California accuses JPMorgan of letting Goliath use its banking infrastructure to pull in investor funds while ignoring warning signs that something was wrong.

According to the complaint, JPMorgan was the only bank holding Goliath’s accounts from January 2023 through mid-2025 — the bulk of the scheme’s run.

During that stretch, roughly $250 million passed through a single JPMorgan account linked to Goliath. About $123 million of that was sent to Goliath’s wallets held at Coinbase.

Attorneys say the sheer volume moving through one account should have triggered scrutiny under federal banking rules that require institutions to know who their customers are and what those customers do with their money.

“Chase, by virtue of its Know Your Customer obligations, actually knew that Goliath was acting as a private equity cryptocurrency pool operator investing money for investors, without being licensed at all to sell these investments,” the complaint states.

Harsh criticism: Former British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, labeled Bitcoin a “giant Ponzi scheme” based solely on collective belief.

Technical response: Michael Saylor clarified that a Ponzi requires a central operator and guaranteed returns, elements that do not exist in BTC’s decentralized network.

Corporate exposure: Saylor’s defense occurs as MicroStrategy holds 738,731 BTC, representing approximately 3.52% of the total supply.

Again Bitcoin is the center of an intense political debate, following the incendiary declarations of Boris Johnson. It all started with the former President’s declarations in the Daily Mail, where he criticized Bitcoin, labeling it a “giant Ponzi scheme,” furthermore saying that the crypto sector lacks intrinsic value and depends on a constant flow of new investors, comparing it to historical fraudulent systems.

Johnson based his position on a personal anecdote about a citizen who lost approximately 20,000 pounds after a failed investment started in a pub. From a technical perspective, Johnson questioned the lack of institutional authority behind the asset, contrasting it with fiat currencies that, historically, derive their value from government backing and State power.

According to the press release, Foundry is entering the Zcash market with a new mining pool service, aiming to fill the gap in ZEC mining infrastructure for institutional entities and publicly traded companies. Foundry USA, a subsidiary of Foundry, is currently the world's largest Bitcoin mining pool by total hashrate. A mining pool refers to miners in a decentralized network collaborating by combining their hashrate to better compete with the network as a whole and increase their chances of obtaining block rewards.

With this latest move, Foundry will introduce institutional-grade mining pool services for ZEC. "Zcash has evolved into an institutional-grade asset, but its supporting mining infrastructure has not kept pace," said Foundry CEO Mike Coyler.

Zcash is a privacy-oriented token launched in 2016. While cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum are "anonymous" due to their lack of authentication, their addresses and transactions are still stored on a public ledger and are visible to anyone.  Privacy coins like ZEC employ truly anonymous blockchain technology, hiding such information by default. The press release specifically states:

By combining robust, cutting-edge privacy technology with transparent blockchain verification, Zcash demonstrates that financial privacy and compliant digital infrastructure can coexist.

Zcash was initially developed based on the Bitcoin codebase, so its token economics are similar: the supply increases as miners add new blocks to the chain and receive corresponding block rewards. ZEC also has a supply cap of 21 million coins, and the block reward is halved approximately every four years.
