The move comes as tensions between the United States and Iran appear to have eased, and the Strait of Hormuz has reopened-an event that has also driven oil prices down to around $88. Even though oil has dropped nearly 11% on Friday, crypto has followed a different trajectory. Bitcoin is up about 5% for the day, and both Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) have posted similar gains. The Catalysts Behind BTC's ResurgenceCommenting on the market reaction, Matt Mena, senior crypto research strategist at 21Shares, told Bloomberg that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is the "risk-on signal" global markets have been waiting for. In his view, removing what he described as one of the most significant geopolitical choke points has helped "uncork" a larger wave of liquidity and investor confidence, supporting demand across risk assets-including digital currencies. One notable driver is institutional buying: Strategy (previously MicroStrategy) has acquired $2.6 billion in Bitcoin during the past two weeks. According to Bohan Jiang, a senior derivatives trader at FalconX, this has helped "underpin" the market, providing additional support as prices rebound. Still, investors are now looking for clarity on how far the rally can extend. What's Next For Bitcoin? Circle unveils USDC Bridge for native cross-chain stablecoin transfers
Stablecoin issuer Circle has launched $USDC Bridge, enabling users to transfer $USDC natively between at least 17 blockchains without needing to rely on wrapped or synthetic tokens.

On Friday, Circle’s $USDC X account said the bridge allows users to move the $USDC ($USDC) stablecoin in a “predictable, transparent way,” citing a native burn-and-mint transfer mechanism and no bridge complexities.

Gas fees will be handled automatically, fees will be shown upfront, and live status updates will be provided throughout the transfer, Circle added.
The $USDC Bridge builds on Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), which was introduced in April 2023 and facilitates hundreds of millions of stablecoin transfers each day.

Cross-chain bridges seek to make the broader crypto ecosystem interoperable, functioning as a unified network rather than a collection of fragmented, isolated blockchains.

Making bridges as simple and easy to use as possible has been an area of focus for many crypto infrastructure firms.

In the past, bridges have confused users and arguably slowed crypto adoption, especially for beginners struggling to navigate bridge interfaces, trade routes and gas fees.

$USDC Bridge supports over a dozen blockchains

Cointelegraph found that $USDC Bridge supports $USDC transfers between at least 17 Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible blockchains, including Ethereum, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base, Monad, Optimism, Polygon, Sonic and World Network.

Circle’s CCTP supports a broader number of blockchains, including Solana, Sui and Aptos, which are not natively EVM compatible.

On Wednesday, Circle was hit with a class action for failing to freeze around $230 million worth of $USDC that moved through its CCTP from the Drift Protocol exploit on April 1.

Global financial giant UBS has published a noteworthy assessment of US monetary policy. The bank stated that it maintains its expectation that the Fed will cut interest rates later in the year.

A research note published by UBS emphasized that the Fed remains on a path of monetary policy easing under the current outlook. The report highlighted that Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has recently indicated that the need for tightening is limited despite the rise in energy prices. It recalled Powell’s statement that supply shocks, particularly those like rising oil prices, are generally ignored as long as inflation expectations remain under control.

UBS analysts stated that the Fed is looking for more evidence of a sustained decline in core inflation before returning to loose monetary policy, but they still expect a total of 50 basis points of interest rate cuts by the end of the year.

On the other hand, the report also included projections for the US bond market. UBS pointed out that current US Treasury yields are significantly higher than before the geopolitical tensions, arguing that there is therefore room for downward movement in yields. The bank stated its year-end forecast for the 2-year US Treasury yield is 3.25%, and for the 10-year Treasury yield is 3.75%.
